ALVIN, Texas โ Julie Pickren has been a trustee with the Alvin Independent School District Board since 2015. She traveled to Washington in January to take part in former President Donald Trumpโs rally and documented it on FaceBook. โWe ask that Ms. Pickren explain what the process was for her being there,โ said chapter president Eugene Howard. โWeโre not asking for ms Pickren to resign. weโre letting the community know that ms Pickren is up for reelection.โKPRC 2 asked Pickren for comment, she declined.

Parents raise concerns about technology accessibility for students in virtual learning
ALVIN Not every family can afford or have access to the basic digital tools their children need for virtual learning. How are they going to learn when we dont have anything that works, Lauren Levesque said. Levesque works from home and will send her daughter back to school because the internet goes in and out. But parents like Braid and Levesque say the problems fall back on the companies that provide the services they need. We have to figure out how to get it fixed so they can have a good education, Levesque said.

This Houston-area school district shows preview of what school reopening could look like
ALVIN โ Alvin Independent School District, which is offering summer school, provides a preview of what schools all across of Texas are likely to look like when they open for the new school year. When walking in the hallways and in all common areas, elementary school children will be required to walk with a special rope to enforce a six-foot distance between each child. โWe can tell them to social distance as much as they would like, but they need to physically see it,โ Ruiz said. Each student holds on to one ball and that gives them a measurement of having social distance between them.โOnce inside the classroom, children are distanced again, at least six feet apart. Children are taught a special dance to help illustrate a safe distance.
Driver killed, 2 others injured during crash in Alvin, investigators say
ALVIN, Texas โ A driver was killed and two others were injured in a crash in Alvin Tuesday morning, authorities said. Investigators said the incident happened when a sedan and a truck crashed into each other at the intersection of Highway 35 and County Road 191. Authorities said the sedan ended up in a ditch and the truck crashed into a tree. The driver of the truck died at the scene, authorities said. According to investigators, speed played a role in the crash.

Alvin ISD is giving families the choice of either face-to-face or virtual instruction for the upcoming school year. Virtual instruction will be offered through a Remote Synchronous Instruction format and a Remote Asynchronous Instruction format. Remote Synchronous Instruction: Two-way, real-time/live, virtual instruction between teachers and students when students are not on campus. Remote Asynchronous Instruction: Instruction that does not require having the instructor and student engaged at the same time. Grieving mother pays for another childโs birthday cake to honor her son
Holly Grimet went to Kroger in Alvin Saturday to pick up her daughterโs birthday cake. Much love from me and my angel in heaven to your family.โA woman purchases a birthday cake for another family to honor her son. Her daughter is the same age as the strangerโs son would have been. Grimet said it is painful to think that a grieving mother might be lonely or sad on her sonโs birthday. Grimet said she has now paid for another childโs birthday cake in Alvin.
Girl soccer star takes kicking talents to football field
ALVIN, Texas โ An Alvin High School student is getting a lot of attention for bringing her soccer talents to the football field. Erin Webster was the kicker for Alvin's varsity football team in the Yellowjackets' 50-14 win over Pasadena on Friday. Webster tore her ACL in May and recently recovered from surgery. Webster is a standout on the soccer field. She is a three-time varsity Letterman and has received multiple scholarship offers.
Alvin police officer hurt when chase ends in head-on crash
ALVIN, Texas โ An Alvin police officer was injured after a man led officers on a chase then crashed into the officer's patrol unit. According to police, Scott Paul Mayers, 38, of Alvin, was wanted in connection with a felony narcotics warrant through the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office. At around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, officers found Mayers and attempted to pull him over in a traffic stop. Mayers refused to stop, leading officers on a chase that spanned several miles and neighborhoods. The chase ended when Mayers crashed head-on into a police unit at Kost Road and Fairview Drive.
