Record heat possible today!
After setting or tying several high temperature records on Friday, we're on pace to possibly do the same today!
We're seeing mid 80s across all of Southeast Texas before noon and we'll be seeing low 90s fairly quickly into the early afternoon.
Our record high temp at Bush/IAH is 85 degrees set back in 2013. I'm forecasting 96 for today. The highs forecast for Hobby and Galveston are 96 and 92 respectively and would also be new records for this date.
We have an Air Quality Alert in place once again today so those with lung issues should be wary of outside activities, especially in the heat of the day between 2 and 6pm.
No appreciable amount of rain is in the forecast for the next week.
A front is expected to push into the region during the Monday/Tuesday time period which will give us heat relief next week. Highs will be in the upper 80s while the lows will range from the low to mid 60s for several days next week.
The tropics are quite active with Tropical Storm Ian the biggest concern. It is forecast to undergo rapid intensification the next few days and reach Category 3, major hurricane status of 115mph, by Tuesday as it emerges north of the western part of Cuba and into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico. Ian is expected to make landfall on Florida's west coast near the Tampa region by the Wednesday/Thursday time period as a Cat 2 or 3 storm.
