Chase ends with suspect crashing into Alvin police car

ALVIN, Texas – An Alvin police officer was injured after a man led officers on a chase then crashed into the officer's patrol unit.

According to police, Scott Paul Mayers, 38, of Alvin, was wanted in connection with a felony narcotics warrant through the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office.

At around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, officers found Mayers and attempted to pull him over in a traffic stop. Mayers refused to stop, leading officers on a chase that spanned several miles and neighborhoods.

The chase ended when Mayers crashed head-on into a police unit at Kost Road and Fairview Drive.

The officer inside, Sgt. Jason Shoemake, was airlifted in stable condition Thursday night to Memorial Hermann Hospital at the Texas Medical Center.

Shoemake, who suffered a back injury, was released from the hospital Friday morning.

Mayers was not injured during the chase. He was taken into custody and will most likely face charges of aggravated assault and/or evading arrest pending the outcome of the collision investigation.
