A man and woman were taken into custody following a drug bust in New Caney, according to deputies from the Precinct 4 Constable “Rowdy” Hayden’s Office.

According to New Caney ISD, there are a total of 116 buses in the district, six of them are without AC. Those six buses have the shortest routes, 30 minutes or less. The district said there may be AC issues from time to time, but when an issue arises, maintenance fixes it as quickly as possible.

NEW CANEY, Texas – A mother is dead and her son was injured after a runaway tire crashed through the windshield of her vehicle. Investigators said the woman and her 17-year-old son were driving home when a Dodge pick-up truck heading in the opposite direction lost its wheel. The wheel went airborne and flew over the concrete barrier before crashing into the windshield of the mother’s GMC pick-up truck, killing her instantly, authorities said. Her son, who was asleep in the passenger seat, was taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition.

NEW CANEY – A family in New Caney is whole again after losing their dog days before Hurricane Harvey slammed into Houston. The family in New Caney almost gave up until a rescue group found her in Sugar land. A volunteer from another organization named, ‘Lost Dogs of Texas’ stepped in and used a special database to find Maddie’s owner. AdThe volunteer from Lost Dogs of Texas was able to contact Rachel’s mother and Maddie was finally reunited with her family. Lost dogs of Texas said thousands of dogs are lost every year.

The Porter and New Caney rivalry has always been exciting in every sport. In the last December matchup, New Caney was victorious, so Porter had something to prove. Porter and New Caney both rebounded each other's shots. Within the last five minutes of the game, New Caney made it to the free-throw line and made both shots, and as did Porter. NEW CANEY, Texas – The former superintendent of New Caney ISD is facing a theft charge. The complaint states school district police suspected the then-superintendent was returning travel vouchers for work trips he didn’t actually take. The district said Franklin submitted his resignation on Nov. 16. The school district said in a statement: “New Caney ISD has been notified of the investigation by law enforcement. The district cannot comment further as this is an ongoing investigation.”The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office said Franklin turned himself in on Thursday.

NEW CANEY, Texas – Since last spring, Texas bar owners have been on a financial roller coaster. In Montgomery County, Sandra Young says the doors of her place, Bokeeter’s Cocktail Bar in New Caney, will remain open in spite of any closure order. She’s had a long-running dispute with state regulators ever since she was first ordered to close last spring. Young’s business actually shouldn’t be open right now. But Young is convinced she has a right to remain open regardless of what the governor says.

NEW CANEY, Texas – An investigation is underway after authorities said a potential home intruder was shot and killed in Montgomery County. The incident happened around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday at a home on Panky Lane and Murphy Lane in New Caney, authorities said. The intruder charged the man, so he fired at the intruder, hitting him in the chest, authorities said. When authorities arrived, officials said emergency responders attempted to save the potential intruder, but he succumbed to his wounds. The identity of the hammer-wielding man has not been released, but authorities said he is believed to be Hispanic.

NEW CANEY, Texas – A New Caney woman is recovering in the hospital after Montgomery County deputies say she told them her husband shot her in the chest with a shotgun and then turned the gun on himself. Deputies said the murder-suicide attempt happened at a home on Tree Monkey Road near FM 1485. According to authorities, the man was found dead at the home. Deputies said the woman, who is 51 years old, is expected to survive the shooting.

CONROE, Texas – Montgomery County commissioners will consider whether two more early-voting locations are needed during a meeting Monday. According to an agenda for the meeting, commissioners will consider a resolution that would add an early-voting location in New Caney and another in Spring. That address corresponds with the location of the East Montgomery County Courthouse Annex. The Spring location would be at 1300 Riley Fuzzel Road. According to the website for Montgomery County Elections, the county currently has nine early voting locations.

Other key returners include first-team, all-district WR Kelton Wright (593 yards, 5 TDs) and second-team pick OL Alex Pruitt. Defensively, watch for first-team DE Wilburn Smallwood and second-team DE Tavaris Owens to shore up the defensive line. The defensive unit will have to replace Defensive MVP Jarrett Pleasant at safety but have some strong pieces back. Harris was the Defensive MVP.

Gone is District 9-5A-DI MVP Zion Childress (Texas State), who combined for more than 3,500 yards of total offense, so the Eagles will have to find a new signal-caller. Returning is Offensive MVP Cale Sanders Jr. (UCF-Commit), who rushed for 1,070 yards and 16 TDs a year ago. First-teamer Kenny Williams (89 tackles, five sacks) will roam at linebacker.

Ware is overly excited to take over this job and has pumped that into the veins of the players and the new-look staff. This team went 1-9 a year ago but don't expect them to stay at that mark for long. Other players to watch on offense include WR Ashton Garner, WR Davin Lee, OL Logan Strong, OL Timothy Sjolander, OL Landon Wood, OL Pierre Broussard and OL Trey Rodgers. Also, watch for move-in Cameron Cooper on the defensive line, he will bring a force to the line. NEW CANEY, Texas – Curbside meal service for New Caney ISD begins Monday, Aug. 10 for students grades PreK-12. Lunch will be charged according to the National School Lunch Program eligibility (full-price, reduced-price, or free depending on eligibility). Meal service will take place Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for breakfast and lunch. Students must be present with a school ID or a parent must provide a student school ID or ID number when picking up meals. New Caney students will return to school beginning August 10. The district published an FAQ page on the school’s reopening, which includes preliminary information about registration, mobile Wi-Fi, and Chromebook rentals. A full plan has not been revealed and the district is currently following guidelines from the CDC and the state. Lowell Shapley of New Caney was fishing when he accidentally stepped into a deep hole where a stingray was at Jamaica Beach in Galveston. In response to a comment on his Facebook post, Shapley said the incident was caused by bad luck and bad timing. Despite wearing protective reef boots and waders, he says the stingray went through the boot and a layer of neoprene. Had the water muddied around me so couldn’t see and moved sideways right into a deep hole where he was laid up. Got to shore and called a friend close that came over with an icechest full of scalding water,” Shapley said on Facebook.

New Caney coach Tricia Mize passed away on Wednesday night due to Stage 4 liver cancer, which was first reported by the Conroe Courier, leaving a son, Mason, and a daughter, Micha. "I gave her a tough time after that last game at New Caney," Wolfe said. "She's just a great person, just hands down a great person that cares about her kids," Wolfe said. NEW CANEY, Texas – Crime Stoppers and the Houston Police Department’s Robbery Division are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect(s) responsible for a violent purse snatching in Montgomery County. The suspect then took the woman’s purse and then ran back to the vehicle and jumped into the backseat. The woman tried to run after the suspect’s vehicle, but police said she stopped when the suspect fired a round towards her. According to police, the suspect’s shoes fell off as he exited the vehicle and were recovered by officers. Shortly after the robbery, police said the suspect’s iPad was tracked near the Greyhound Bus Station, but was never located.

NEW CANEY, Texas – A teen was killed early Thursday morning when the car he was driving slammed into a New Caney home. The crash was reported at 2:16 a.m. at a home on Russel Drive at Trinity Way. The vehicle went airborne and hit a tree, which sheared off the side of the car, troopers said. The vehicle then crashed into two support pillars of the home and stopped in a stairway, troopers said. Troopers said they are investigating the cause of the crash, but they believe alcohol and speed were factors.

NEW CANEY, Texas – A family was left homeless after a massive blaze tore through their home. The fire started around 11 p.m. Tuesday on Lilac Lane near Azalea Lane in New Caney, according to the Montgomery County Fire Department. The wife, who was inside the home when the fire started, called the fire department and told them the second-floor master bedroom was on fire. Firefighters had some issues putting the blaze out because of the lack of fire hydrants, so extra tankers had to be called in, authorities said. While they were fighting the fire, authorities said they noticed a five-ton central air unit inside the home, so all firefighters were ordered to immediately evacuate the area.

NEW CANEY, Texas – Among the music, the candles, the hugs and tears there were loving memories shared of 17-year-old Joshua Givens at New Caney High School Tuesday night. Several dozen people -- including family, friends, teammates and faculty members -- held a candlelight vigil to honor the high school junior. Givens was killed in an apparent hit-and-run on Sunday morning while walking home from a friend's quinceanera. "There's no words to explain," Del Angel replied when asked how much she would miss her friend. A viewing will be held Wednesday for Givens at the Grand Parkway Church in Porter.
