Man found dead in New Caney ditch; Investigators believe he was hit the night before while riding bicycle

NEW CANEY, Texas – Texas DPS is investigating a fatal vehicle-pedestrian crash where a man who had been riding a bicycle was found dead in a ditch.

The discovery was made around 10:20 a.m. Thursday near 22098 Loop 494 in New Caney.

Authorities believe the collision happened sometime in the late evening on Wednesday. The victim reportedly left his nearby residence at around 9:30 p.m.

Evidence suggests that an unknown vehicle likely traveling northbound on Loop 494, struck the cyclist from behind before fleeing the scene. His body and bicycle were found in the ditch Thursday.
