Investigators responded to a local auto body shop, where they found six dogs left outside including one that had died. Another call involving the Houston Humane Society resulted in a pet owner facing charges after investigators found eight dogs left outside. Houston police sergeant killed in shootout remembered as dedicated public servant, family man
HOUSTON โ A veteran Houston police sergeant who was fatally shot last week while trying to intervene during a shootout was remembered Wednesday as a leader who dedicated his life to his family and community. Family and friends attended a funeral service for Sean Rios, 47, at a Houston church. Police Chief Art Acevedo has said investigators believe Rios saw the shootout and was killed trying to intervene when he was shot. During the funeral service, Acevedo said Riosโ decision to try to stop the shootout was an example of his dedication to helping others. Rios was the second Houston officer to be killed in the past four weeks and the fourth since last December.
London police arrest man over murder of officer at station
LONDON โ London police arrested a man Friday on suspicion of murdering an officer inside a police station nearly two months ago. Matiu Ratana, 54, was shot at Croydon Custody Center in south London in the early hours of Sept. 25 by a handcuffed suspect. Ratana, a hugely popular officer, was taken to hospital but later died from his wounds. The officer is the 17th from the London force to be killed by a firearm since 1945. Before Ratana, the last London police officer killed in the line of duty was Constable Keith Palmer, who was stabbed to death in March 2017 during a vehicle and knife attack outside Parliament.

Officials: Parking deck in Atlanta experiences 2nd collapse
ATLANTA โ A concrete slab at a parking deck under construction in Atlanta collapsed Saturday โ the second collapse at the site in as many days โ sending a worker trying to shore up the structure plunging several stories below, authorities said. The 3,000-space parking garage is being built at one of Emory Universityโs hospitals just north of downtown Atlanta. On Friday, a section of concrete on the prefabricated parking deck partially collapsed, injuring six workers. Stafford said Saturday that a construction problem, not a faulty design, was to blame for that first collapse. Other construction workers were injured but managed to walk away from the collapse, Riley told reporters at the scene.

HOUSTON โ A 16-year-old boy was killed Tuesday in what officials believe to be an accidental shooting near Houstonโs Sunnyside neighborhood, according to police. The shooting was reported about noon in the 4700 block of Clover Street, near Cullen Boulevard. Houston police say the teen was playing basketball with other teens and young adults in the street outside a friendโs house. When the group went indoors to rest for a minute, witnesses told police that the teen slapped his pocket with his hand and a pistol he had in his pocket went off and killed him. It is unclear who owned the gun or why the teen was carrying it, officials said.

Body of slain HPD Sgt. Christopher Brewster escorted to funeral home
HOUSTON โ The body of Houston police Sgt. Christopher Brewster was escorted Monday from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences building to a northwest Houston funeral home Monday morning. Members of Brewsterโs Eastside Patrol Division stood at attention and saluted his casket as it was taken into the funeral home. A 9-year veteran of the Houston Police Department, Brewster was promoted to sergeant 9 months ago. Police said Brewster, 32, was shot several times by 25-year-old Arturo Solis on a street in east Houston.

HOUSTON โ Comrades of Houston police Sgt. Christopher Brewster saluted as the casket carrying his body arrived at the Harris County Medical Examinerโs Office late Saturday night. Acevedo said Brewster called for help and was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries. With lights flashing, more than a dozen Houston Police Department cruisers and motorcycles escorted a van that was carrying Brewsterโs body to the Medical Examinerโs Office about 10:45 p.m. Saturday. They stood at attention and saluted as the flag-draped casket was brought into the building.
Distracted driver spotted playing trumpet behind the wheel
(KSL/NBC News) Out on the interstate, we all see drivers distracted behind the wheel with their phones, food, and personal grooming. Still, most of us have probably never seen anybody playing an instrument behind the wheel, until today. 13-year-old Brynlee Eggett and her older sister shot video of a man playing a trumpet while driving with their family on I-15 in Utah County. โItโs a very unsafe thing to be doing behind the wheel of a moving vehicle,โ said Sgt. But, unless heโs speeding or committing another moving violation, heโs not breaking the Utah careless driving law.
