CULTURE FIT: College Park hires red-hot Coats after State Title with Desoto
Kyle Coats has been named College Parkโs third coach in school history and comes over to run the Cavalier program with some new hardware. Coats was the co-defensive coordinator at Desoto High School, which won Class 6A DII State Championship in December.

The Latest: Howard U cancels remainder of men's hoops season
Top prospect Makur Maker was limited to 23 points in 48 minutes over just two games during his freshman season. ___The NFL reports it had no positive tests for players and one positive among other personnel during Super Bowl week. Itโs the 34th game postponed so far this season, which is roughly a quarter of the way through. ___Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington has tested positive for the coronavirus and has withdrawn from the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Three staff members and one management official have also tested positive at the club.
NO STARS, NO PROBLEM: College Park's Scott commits to LSU
Before the 2020 season, College Park's Marcus Scott II was off the grid. "When I got on varsity, I wasn't 'the guy'," Scott said. Scott is now 'the guy' after having a breakout junior season, but he didn't have any recruiting stars. LSU DB coach Corey Raymond responded. His grandmother was a track star and his aunt is Brittney Scott โ who was a first-team Conference USA basketball star at the University of Houston.

Maryland shocks Minnesota 45-44 in OT on missed conversion
Maryland celebrate after defeating Minnesota during overtime of an NCAA college football game, Friday, Oct. 30, 2020, in College Park, Md. Maryland won 45-44 in overtime. Minnesota's Brock Walker sent an extra-point try wide right after the potential tying touchdown, giving Maryland a stunning 45-44 comeback victory Friday night. Never in school history had Maryland won after trailing by 17 points in the fourth quarter. Jake Funk ran for a career-best 221 yards, and Maryland totaled a whopping 675 yards of offense.
VYPE Hoops 2020 High School Boys Preseason Showcase Wrap
This past weekend, VYPE Hoops hosted its second high school basketball preseason showcase at the Texas Tornados facility. Thirty-four varsity teams and 10 junior varsity squads laced up their sneakers for the fourth annual event. College Park,Stratford,Cy Ranch, Barbers Hill, Galena Park, Salt & Light, Cy Falls and Cy Park all went 2-0 in the showcase event. Some power programs were also involved such as 2020 state finalist Stafford, perennial power Katy Tompkins and Morton Ranch were also in attendance. "I love our preseason events; it provides VYPE a sneak-peek to the upcoming basketball season," VYPE Chief Strategy Officer Derek Dusek said.
VYPE U: College Park JV Volleyball
Friday night, volleyball fans, students, and parents flooded into the College Park gym to cheer on the Lady Cavaliers for the second time this season. Following a victory against Kingwood Park on Tuesday night, the JV team was looking for another win against Klein Collins. During the 2nd set, the girls were able to bounce back from the challenges they faced during the 1st set and defeated Klein Collins 25-12. This win concluded the hard-fought match of the night and cheers rumbled through the gym as the girls celebrated. This successful match is only the beginning of a victorious season for the Junior Varsity team.
VYPE Football 2020 Preview: District 13-6A
But VYPE has still done what we have always done when it comes to previewing Texas high school football here in Houston. With that said - here is the District 13-6A Preview! Conroe ISD plus Willis High School would make up District 13-6A in a six-team district, meaning only two teams won't make the postseason. Willis is moving up from Class 5A while Grand Oaks enters its first-ever district as a new school. The QB of the defense is two-time, all-district LB Dylan Hazen (Wake Forest-commit), who is a terror for offensive coordinators.
2020 VYPE Boys Cross Country Preview (Public School): Preseason Team, Runner Rankings
VYPE whipped together this preview to get cross country fans ready for the 2020 season. These are the top runners and teams for Public School Boys Cross Country. When you look at a team that finished 16th overall at state last year but brings back everyone, that excites you. Other To Watch: HuffmanThe Huffman boys finished 15th overall at the UIL State Cross Country meet last year. The Spartans finished 12th overall at state last year but do lose top runner Erick Lara, who took 41st overall.
2020 VYPE Girls Cross Country Preview (Public School): Preseason Team, Runner Rankings
An experienced senior group is back, headed by Addison Stevenson, who finished ninth overall with a time of 18:06.58. If Tompkins can push a few more girls into the Top 30 spots, they could contend for a higher team finish. The team finished 13th overall at last year's state meet but do return some experience. OTHERS TO WATCH: Huffman FalconsHuffman finished ninth overall at the UIL State Cross Country meet last year. They do lose two senior runners but return three more harriers with experience.
EXCLUSIVE: College Park's Hazen off to the ACC
College Park's Dylan Hazen is off to the ACC to face power programs Clemson, Florida State, Miami and the crew. He committed to Wake Forest this afternoon. The linebacker/safety exploded onto the scene the past two seasons and posted some head-turning numbers are the exposure camps before COVID19. "I loved the academic and the power 5 football that Wake Forest has to offer," he said. I was able to talk with some players at Wake Forest.
