HOUSTON - What a season it was for women's basketball in Houston. The city had Cypress Creek reach the Class 6A State Championship game for a second-straight year and reached the state tournament for the third time in four seasons. Cy Creek fell short of DeSoto but the numbers for the group are phenomenal. There was so much great talent in the city, so it's time to name the Public School All-VYPE teams. Father accused of street racing with infant and toddler in backseat of car
Atascocita, TX – An Atascocita man is facing charges of street racing and child endangerment after investigators say he was racing with his two children in the back seat of his car. According to Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman, Kevin Quinteros admitted that he was racing last Saturday in the 20000 block of West Lake Parkway. He had a female companion, a 7-month-old baby, and then a 3-year-old child,” said Herman. “Most of these individuals that are out on our streets racing underestimate the danger of what speed can do and every year we see it - hundreds and hundreds of people die from street racing,” Herman told KPRC 2. AdQuinteros is facing one count of street racing in addition to two child endangerment charges.

Ashley Boyd enters year seven as the head coach of this squad, which won state just a few years ago. It was an early exit from the playoffs in 2019 for Atascocita, which they are ready to avenge. Katie Cimusz (Texas) and Mikayla Garza (Galveston College) have been the constants on this team, being four-year starters and being freshmen on the state title team. ATASCOCITA, Texas – Authorities are asking for help identifying a porch pirate caught on camera in the Atascocita area. The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 18300 block of Wild Lilac Trail in the Eagle Springs neighborhood, authorities said. Surveillance video shows the moment a white, 2-door, older-model Honda Civic backs into a driveway, a woman gets out and takes a package from the doorstep. The woman is described as white or Hispanic and with long hair. In the video, she was wearing shorts and a black shirt.

Deer Park man in custody in shooting death of ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend, police say
BAYTOWN, Texas – A man from Deer Park is behind bars after Baytown police said he shot and killed a 28-year-old man from Atascocita Wednesday. Police said the shooting happened at an apartment complex in the Pecan Grove area of Baytown on Richard Street around 6: 26 p.m. According to authorities, the victim, Marco Recio, had been visiting a woman when her ex-boyfriend showed up. Recio and the 25-year-old man reportedly got in a verbal altercation. Police said the man turned himself in to law enforcement.

Atascocita has been built into a top program in the city. The Eagles have made the Regional Semifinals in two of the last three seasons. Led by coach Veronica Johnson, Atascocita will have some pieces to replace including Texas-signee Elyssa Coleman, who averaged nearly 20 points per game. First-team, all-district pick Blake Matthews returns after averaging 8.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per game a year ago. Also returning are second-team, all-district picks Makaylee Duhon (5.7 ppg, 2.5 rpg) and Kori Fenner (5.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.5 spg).

HOUSTON – A person is dead after a two-vehicle crash on FM 1960 in Atascocita, authorities said Wednesday. Law enforcement officers are working in the 5700 block of FM 1960 Road East, according to Harris County Constable Precinct 4. All lanes are closed. Authorities are asking for people to avoid the area.

ATASCOCITA, Texas - An Atascocita man called to report he was shot by his girlfriend Tuesday before he died, deputies said. The shooting was reported about 9:30 p.m. in the Kings River Villa neighborhood, near Pinehurst Trail and Pine Wind drives. According to investigators, Harris County deputies arrived and found a 65-year-old man, identified as Dale Blake, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Blake was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he died, investigators said. Deputies said they located a 30-year-old woman, identified as Latonya Jones, a short time later, who said she was the Blakes girlfriend.
Atascocita, Spring and Montgomery County receive smoke detector donations for local community
Officials are urging Atascocita, Spring and Montgomery County homeowners to check the status of their smoke detectors and take advantage of a free service to have detectors installed in their homes if needed. On Oct. 3, the Insurance Council of Texas donated hundreds of smoke detectors to local first responder agencies. Representatives from the Atascocita Fire Department, the Spring Fire Department and the Montgomery County Fire Marshals Office received smoke detector donations from the ICT, according to a news release from the Spring Fire Department. Atascocita and Montgomery County officials said their departments also launched efforts in October 2018 to increase the number of homes with smoke detectors in their respective communities. 46can have new smoke detectors installed in their homes at no cost or have their existing alarms checked, AFD Public Information Officer Jerry Dilliard said.

LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- An Atascocita firefighter was killed in a crash involving highly-concentrated, sub-zero canisters of apple juice.On Friday night, Lieutenant Jared Snell, 35, was headed eastbound on Highway 105 when he collided with a refrigerated 18-wheeler.Snell, who was a member of the Atascocita Fire Department since April 2017, was pronounced dead on the scene.Officials told ABC13 that the driver of the 18-wheeler jumped out of the big rig before it went up into flames. He is expected to be okay.Snell leaves behind a wife and four children. He graduated from the Cleveland Fire Academy in Cleveland, Texas in 2005.

The crash occurred about 10 miles east of Cleveland, Atascocita Fire Department spokesperson Jerry Dilliard said. "Our hearts are broken, and our thoughts and prayers are with Jared Snell's family," Dilliard said. Snell joined the Atascocita Fire Department in April 2017 after previously serving in the Baytown Fire Department.
