ATASCOCITA, Texas – An investigation is underway after a woman was fatally shot and her husband, who is believed to be the suspected shooter, was also killed at a residence in northwest Harris County, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
The shooting was called in around 4 p.m. after reports of multiple gunshots in the 12500 block of Tullich Run. A neighbor’s home surveillance camera captured the whole thing.
Gonzalez said one of the people shot is an agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
An NCIS spokesperson released the following statement:
“We can confirm that an NCIS Special Agent was shot and wounded by a male subject today at a residence in Humble, Texas while conducting a victim interview in connection with a domestic violence investigation. The Special Agent was transferred to a local hospital and is in stable condition. A second NCIS Special Agent on scene returned fire on the subject, who managed to flee and drive away. The victim in the domestic violence investigation was shot and killed by the subject during the incident. NCIS has confirmed the subject is now deceased. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family and loved ones. We also pray for a speedy recovery for our wounded Special Agent. Out of respect for the investigative process, NCIS will not comment further at this time. We will provide additional information as more details are confirmed.”
“Thankfully, the agent will most likely survive his injuries,” Gonzalez said.
He added that an infant, who was also found in the residence where the incident happened, is safe.
“The suspect, believed to be the husband, ran inside the household while the female was carrying her infant child in her arms. It appears that he shot her, and she [was] deceased inside the house. When our deputies eventually responded to the scene, they found her clutching the infant on top of her body,” said Gonzalez. “As the suspect was fleeing he encountered the agents outside and there was gunfire exchanged.”
The suspect fled the first location, Gonzelez added.
According to Harris County Constable Precinct 4 Mark Herman, it appears a Harris County Pct. 4 deputy then encountered the suspect somewhere around Mist Lane near Jones.
When deputies arrived at the scene, the suspect reportedly opened fire on deputies.
Authorities at the scene returned fire and reportedly struck the suspect multiple times, according to Herman.
The suspect’s identity was not released but Gonzalez said he is believed to be a recruiter in the military.
“We don’t know where he was assigned,” said Gonzalez.
