It happened on Atascocita Road past Will Clayton Parkway on the northeast side around 1 a.m. when investigators said an unidentified man swerved through lanes before hitting a concrete culvert, causing his car to flip several times.
The driver was said to be wearing his seatbelt but suffered serious facial injuries and was rushed to a hospital via Life Flight. Harris County Sgt. B. Bondurant, with Harris County Sheriff’s Office’s Vehicular Crimes Division, said they believe he was speeding and driving drunk.

While officers were investigating the crash site, another driver went past the barricade and crashed her car into the scene. Sgt. B. Bondurant said the driver was detained and believed she may also have been intoxicated.
“Obviously it’s New Year’s Eve, so, unfortunately, we’ve got a lot of intoxicated drivers on the roadways,” he said.
As of this writing, no additional information was shared, so it’s unclear what charges they will both face.
