An early hurricane heads-up for Houston and Texas
For 20 years now, engineer Dale Link has issued a broad hurricane forecast for the United States (and all over the world) indicating not โhow manyโ hurricanes weโll have in a given season, but where those storms have a 50-50 chance of making landfall.
Addressing Texasโ power grid concerns
On Wednesday, officials with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, shared a seasonal assessment that shows extreme temperatures over the summer may put the state in an energy crunch. These worries stem from what officials with the Public Utilities Commission of Texas and ERCOT said is Texasโ failure to keep up with population growth in terms of the grid.
Houston-area forecast: Sweater weather this weekend
HOUSTON โ Cold air has settled into Southeast Texas and will be sticking around for a while. We are in the beginning of the longest stretch of cold weather that has hit Houston so far this season. As we head into late Sunday, temperatures will start to drop and wintry precipitation will be getting close to Southeast Texas! Sunday NightAccumulations will be insignificant in Southeast Texas but snow will accumulate north and northwest of our area. Weekend Travel WeatherAfter Sundayโs rain/snow mix event, the rest of the ten day forecast shows a cooler than normal start with plenty of sunshine for the week ahead.

HOUSTON โ The rain should wrap up later in the evening and cooler air will take most of the night to move in. Expect some patchy dense fog early tomorrow with temperatures falling into the 50s. Mostly sunny skies will return by the afternoon with highs in the mid 60s. Sunshine will return tomorrow afternoonTemperatures will be cooler behind Fridayโs front with 60s returning this weekend. Saturday will be the drier half of the weekend with another front moving through on Sunday bringing in another round of showers.
Hereโs what Houstonโs weather will look like as Delta makes landfall
Rain and wind, main impacts from Delta (KPRC)Hurricane Delta continues to be a massive, dangerous and major hurricane. Landfall is expected along the Louisiana coast just east of Cameron some late this afternoon or early evening. The storm is being pushed into Louisiana due to a trough of low pressure moving into Texas. Although Delta will be to our east, the rain and wind will make for an uncomfortable day. After Delta, the next ten days are warmer than normal with very little rain.
Fall front brings winning weather this weekend!
A fall cold front is on the way to break the summer heat just in time for the weekend! Cold fronts in September are never a sure thing, but this one is looking more and more likely as the weekend edges closer. High temperatures on Saturday and Sunday are projected to hover in the mid to upper 80s. Highs will remain in the 80s this weekend, with no "feels like" temperatures to fret over. Bottom line, this weekend should turn out to be quite spectacular, barring any big weather surprises.

The morning temperatures which have for several days registering record high minimums will also cool toward the normal mid 70s along with drier conditions as well.
Houston forecast: Sizzling heat, storm chance
The bigger issue will be the feels like temperatures which will be in the 108-112 degree range. Rain chances will be about 30% for today and for the rain associated with the front that will arrive tomorrow. Break in high temps starting tonight and Monday (KPRC)After today well get a break from the heat and get some much needed rain from time to time as our high temperatures settled into the mid 90s. Our morning lows will be cooler as well but more importantly will be MUCH less humid with some of our northern communities possibly seeing upper 60s!
After Hanna: Rainy start to the week
A coastal flood advisory greeted early risers in Galveston (KPRC)As Hanna moved into northeast Mexico this morning, the waves stirred up in the Gulf of Mexico were impacting the Texas coastline with higher than normal tides. Rain stays in the forecast to start the week (KPRC)As the remnants of Hanna continue to move into Mexico, tropical moisture from the Gulf will be our friend for the start of the week as well. The funnel effect will push moisture and elevated rain chances into Houston for the start of the week. Rain sticks around for the start of the week (KPRC)We will see decreasing rain chances by Tuesday into Wednesday. As the rain chances go down the high temperatures will head back into the low to mid 90s.
Summer swelter in full force as we head toward 4th of July weekend
HOUSTON โ Rain was on the retreat while temperatures trended upward in Houston over the weekend. It wonโt be record heat but expect temperatures to be slightly above normal with high humidity in place every day. Summer heat and Saharan dust in todayโs forecast
Take advantage of the morning and later evening as afternoon temperatures in the 90s will feel like the triple digits. Another batch of Saharan dust is lower air quality. Anyone that struggled with the dust this past weekend should prepare for a repeat for the rest of the week. DustAn area of mid-level high pressure will be moving from the Gulf to almost directly over the Houston region this week. Rain chances return as the high moves farther to the west and allowing showers chances to return in time for the July 4.
Another round of heavy rain expected Friday morning
HOUSTON After multiple rounds of heavy rain in southeast Texas this week, get ready for another round for Friday. Deep tropical moisture combined with weak disturbances drifting over the region have produced multiple waves of heavy rain. Areas west and southwest of Houston are most likely to see the heaviest rain, although bands could set up over Houston, too. The location of the highest rainfall amounts will depend on exactly where heavy rain bands develop, and that is far from certain. The High Resolution Rapid Refresh short-range forecast model places the heaviest rain west of Houston, as shown in the figure below, but Houston is certainly not out of play.
Behind Fridayโs storms, cooler weather for Motherโs Day weekend.
The front sparked a line of showers and storms that brought needed water to drought-stricken areas south of Houston, especially. And, while the weather wasnโt severe in southeast Texas, storms in Louisiana associated with the same cold front packed a wicked punch, prompting severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings. Behind the front, dry skies will take over in the Houston area. Temperatures will be the weather headline throughout the weekend, too, as they stay below normal from start to finish. On Motherโs Day, temperatures will be in the lower 80s under full sunshine.
Summer-Like Weekend on the Way
Thankfully humidity will still be in check but it will be very warm Friday afternoon. Afternoon highs are usually in the low 80s for May 1st and today temperatures will top off in the mid 80s. FridayHumidity creeps back in this weekend. With temperatures close to 90 degrees and humidity settling in it will feel like SUMMER this weekend! So far the front next Wednesday does not look like it will produce severe weather but rather just bring in a round of showers.

A second round of storms will hit the region Sunday morning and early afternoon.. Like Saturdayโs storms, Sundayโs storms could produce hail and damaging wind. HOUSTON โ We had a break in heavy rain as of about 10pm last night and now weโre starting to see a return of a rainy pattern for your Saturday. Our futurecast forecast model shows the heaviest rain will likely be this afternoon and then winding down by around 8pm tonight. Expecting moderate to heavy afternoon rain and isolated thunderstorms (KPRC)As a result of the clouds and rain and north wind, our temperatures will stay in the 50s and 60s inland with warmer temperatures along the coast. Stormy weather moves in; cooler weather this weekend
As much as 3 inches of rain will be a welcomed sight as Southeast Texas has been extremely dry. Today's Weather North of I-10South of I-10, especially coastal counties, will be mainly dry until lunchtime. Expect lower rainfall totals south of I-10. Although rain chances are location-based, everyone across Southeast Texas will feel cooler Friday with temperatures in the 70s. Sunshine has returned
HOUSTON โ Weโll see plenty of sunshine for Valentineโs Day, but a very chilly start with widespread 30s. Weโll see a nice warmup with some sunshine in the afternoon with slightly warmer temperatures in the low 60s. Enjoy a nice warmup with 70s returning on Sunday. Late Saturday night into Sunday morning there is a stray shower chance mainly along the coast. Rain moves in late tomorrow: Wet work week coming!
Tomorrow, the clouds return and isolated showers will start in the morning with on and off showers to follow by Sunday evening into Monday. Monday kicks off a fairly wet and unsettled work week with a potential for heavy rain and strong storms late in the afternoon. A vigorous cold front will slowly move through the state, stall near the coast, leaving rain chances in play for the next three days with highs in the low 70s. 10-Day ForecastThe result is a ten day forecast that has plenty of rain for the start of the week along with warmer than normal temperatures until mid week.
