Klein Collins High School evacuated due to smoke, officials say
SPRING, Texas โ Students and staff Klein Collins High School in Spring are being evacuated, according to officials. The Spring Fire Department shared a tweet saying smoke had been spotted at the Klein ISD school Wednesday morning. Information is limited, but the fire department said there are firefighters on the scene.
Klein ISD bringing failing students back to the classroom
KLEIN, Texas โ Students in the Klein Independent School District who are failing their online classes will be required to transition to in-person instruction unless they have a medical exemption. The only exception will be for students who have a medical exemption form that is signed by a doctor. Officials said dates for this transition will be provided to parents by their childโs school. This plan differs from a plan announced by officials at the Deer Park Independent School District on Thursday. The so-called Reboot 2021 plan aims to bring all students back to the classroom after the start of the new year, with medical exemptions for some students.

SPRING, Texas โ Six Hildebrandt Intermediate School students were hospitalized Monday after ingesting a substance that was brought to school from home, officials said. Officials from the Klein Independent School District said ambulances took the students to Texas Childrenโs Hospital in The Woodlands after ingesting the substance that was brought to the school by a student. All six students are said to be in stable condition. Officials said it is not yet clear what the substance was, but Klein ISD police are investigating the incident.

HOUSTON โ A Wunderlich Intermediate School teacher has died after being found unresponsive by students on campus Thursday afternoon, according to Klein ISD. โIt is with great sadness that I share with you that we have lost a member of our Wunderlich Family,โ wrote Principal Clay Huggins. โWe extend our deepest sympathies to Mr. Smithโs family.โThe Klein ISD Critical Incident Response Team will be on campus Friday and will continue to be available for any student and staff member in need of support. If there is something we can do to assist the family as a Wunderlich community, we will communicate that information to you.โThe Klein ISD Guidance and Counseling Department have complied information for those who may be grieving. High school football set to kick off with COVID-19 safety measures in place
HOUSTON โ High school football in the Houston area is back. Coronavirus is forcing districts like Klein ISD to implement safety measures to protect both players and fans. โWe are really thankful for Klein and the school district for making sure that everyone is safe. HOUSTON โ The Texas State Teachers Association announced Monday that its members had reported hundreds of COVID-19 protocol discrepancies or violations in the first couple weeks of the school year. In the Houston area, the most complaints of violations were submitted by teachers in the Cy-Fair Independent School District with 210 reports of violations since the school district began the academic year last week. We hope we havenโt prolonged the day when we can think about being normal again.โSee the Houston-area districts where the most teachers reported COVID-19 violations during the first couple weeks of the school year. HISD website appears to crash on first day of virtual classes
HOUSTON โ As students in the stateโs largest school district started their virtual classes Tuesday, some parents reported having trouble connecting to the districtโs website. KPRC 2 attempted to visit the official website for the Houston Independent School District several times Tuesday morning and received a runtime error and a 504 error. They will all be in virtual learning until at least Oct. 19, when some are scheduled to return to in-person learning. According to Lathan, about 12,000 students still do not have devices for virtual learning, but that does not mean they will be left behind. The district launched 36 digital learning centers for kids who still do not have what they need to participate in virtual school.
Klein ISD revamps bus cleaning policies during COVID-19 pandemic
Tuesday morning the school year kicks off for Klein Independent School District, and a question on parents minds, how safe are the buses in the middle of a pandemic? Director of Transportation services for Klein ISD, Josh Rice is charged with the task of keeping buses safe and clean. Klein ISD has approximately 350 buses. The new cleaning policies will likely continue post coronavirus to mitigate the spread of germs on the bus, according to Rice. Whether on the bus or at school, students have to wear one.

KLEIN, Texas โ Klein ISD organized a simulation day for teachers and students on Wednesday, ahead of the first day of school next week. There is still a week before classes begin, but children and teachers were back in the classrooms and wearing their masks. That was really hard, so I just said, โair hug, air hug,โโ said Wahlquist. HOUSTON โ The Klein Independent School District board voted 6-1 to delay the start of the 2020-21 school year in a meeting Monday night. The school year will now begin on Sept. 8 instead of Aug. 19, district officials decided Monday. HOUSTON School districts in Harris County will not return to partial in-person learning until at least Sept. 8, according to an order signed by Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo. Officials cited the countys high coronavirus positivity rate, requiring school districts that had planned to offer both online and in-person learning to pivot. The Klein Independent School District was one of them and its superintendent asked county health leaders Tuesday for clarity on how and when school campuses will be considered safe enough for in-person learning to return. We are at a point where people need to stay home, where no gathering should take place, much less in a school, Hidalgo said. Texas Governor Greg Abbott said Tuesday said local school districts should decide how they will reopen.

Klein ISD shares plan for reopening schools for 2020-2021 school year
KLEIN, Texas โ Klein ISD released its plan Friday for reopening school in five and a half weeks. Adcox is an 11th grader at Klein High School and believes itโs best if she stays home for school. โI think itโll be more likely for me to catch it and spread it to someone whoโs more vulnerable, so I donโt want that to happen,โ she said. Klein ISD provides 600 graduates with drive-thru senior photoshoot
More than 600 graduating seniors were gifted a professional portrait from Klein ISD at a drive-thru photoshoot over the weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, students pulled up to DeMontrond Collision where photographers and photoshoot areas were set up for them to take senior portraits. โI am so grateful for this generous donation from DeMontrond Collision for our graduating seniors,โ Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. โTheir commitment to celebrating the Class of 2020โs accomplishments in an incredible opportunity for our students and families to make new memories.โOfficials for Klein ISD described the two-day event as a safe way to honor its graduates and their accomplishments. Klein ISD working to teach students through online education programs
SPRING, Texas โ This is the first official week back to school for Klein ISD students, and teachers are ready to get to work online. In addition to helping kids in the classroom, Klein ISD said the food program will continue at several different locations. This week, teachers will begin working with students online with lots of different tools, like online meetings and tutorial videos. Students will continue to get their assignments online as well. Last week, Klein ISD did a โsoft launchโ and they were able to target issues and fix them before classes started back up this week.

HOUSTON โ At home playing basketball with her 12-year-old daughter Alexandra, Grace Trevino has recently learned that Klein ISD has identified a person who has tested presumptive positive for coronavirus. On Friday, Klein ISD officials said the person is not a student or staff member, teacher or administrator. He too is happy that Klein ISD is closing schools down. โThere just hasnโt been enough testing," Rasmussen said. Klein ISD will reopen on March 23.

HOUSTON โ A question about rape ends up on a biology homework assignment for ninth graders at a Houston-area high school. Klein Independent School District confirms a teacher at Klein Collins High School sent home what the district calls an โinappropriate homework questionโ on a take-home assignment Friday. The question was part of a biology DNA assignment and reads:โSuzy was assaulted in an alley and is a victim of rape. Which of the suspects rape Suzy?โParents along with students at Klein Collins ranged between surprised, confused and outraged. A spokesman estimated about 90 students received the assignment.
2 students charged after firework explodes in Klein Forest High School cafeteria
KLEIN, Texas โ Two students have been charged following the firework explosion inside Klein Forest High School that sent the campus into a panic. According to authorities, the two students were arrested and charged with arson after the intentionally ignited a firework that was placed inside another container in the cafeteria Tuesday. โIโm proud of our partnerships with Klein ISD Police, local law enforcement, and the District Attorneyโs Office. Our officers were able to quickly identify the suspects, obtain confessions, and file charges.โAccording to Klein Independent School District Police Department, this incident happened in the cafeteria during fifth period causing panic among students and teachers. All Klein Forest High School after-school activities, including home and away activities, were canceled, district officials wrote.
