A timeline of the investigation of former Klein ISD teacher accused of sex-trafficking students

Kedria Grigsby (Harris County Sheriff's Office)

HARRIS COUNTY – Earlier this week, former Klein ISD cosmetology teacher Kedria Grigsby was arrested on charges related to child trafficking and juvenile prostitution.

Shockingly, the charges stemmed from an alleged prostitution ring that Grigsby managed with her son, Roger Magee, and included students from the school that employed Grigsby.

One day after Grigsby’s arrest, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on an iPhone owned and used by Grigsby, which detailed a timeline of the investigation that led to her arrest.

2022

Nov. 8: Police with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Human Trafficking Unit are called out to a Hotel Royale located in Spring regarding a runaway juvenile who was reporting that she had been sex trafficked by a pimp known as “Rico,” who was later determined to be Roger Magee. The victim, who was in Room 112, stated that Magee left the hotel with two other female victims in a gray Lexus.

During the interview, the victim also said Magee had given them all nicknames, so the “johns” wouldn’t know their real names. She also said Magee forced the victims to give him all the money they made using CashApp, Zelle or physical money. She also supplied investigators with Magee’s CashApp username.

Investigators also learned that Room 112 had been checked out from Nov. 7 through Nov. 9 by Kedria Grigsby.

Nov. 9: The Human Trafficking Unit returned to the hotel to conduct a follow-up investigation. The hotel provided security footage from the previous day, which showed both Grigsby and Magee in a silver car. Magee exits the car with a victim, and they carry luggage into Room 112. The license plate determined that the car was registered to Grigsby.

A different victim returned to Room 112, and she was interviewed by investigators. She told police that she arrived at the hotel with her “stepmom,” who was determined to be Grigsby, to retrieve her belongings. She added that Grigsby has purchased the room for her and two other girls, and that all three engaged in prostitution. She added that Magee “protects her while she’s on dates because he is her boyfriend.”

Investigators interviewed Grigsby the same day. She told them, according to the search warrant, the victim asked her for a ride, and that the victim was Magee’s girlfriend. She added that the three lived together, but she didn’t know the other girl at the hotel and the two girls were friends. Grigsby acknowledged that the hotel was under her name, but she said she only booked it so Magee wouldn’t be at her home with the girls.

The same day, Magee was arrested.

Dec. 12: The second identified victim provided a second interview. She said she and another girl were staying at Grigsby’s home. She didn’t remember Grigsby by name but stated that she was a short female who worked as a schoolteacher. She also said that she and the first victim had run away from their home in October to live with Magee and Grigsby and that the girls made money by posting sexual photos as advertisements of themselves online.

Dec. 16: Investigators serve a Grand Jury Subpoena to Block, Inc., the parent company of CashApp, for the records involving Magee’s account. Two days later, they had confirmed that the account was registered to him.

Jan. 3: Investigators serve another Grand Jury Subpoena to Block, Inc. for records involving Grigsby’s account. Over the next couple of weeks, police also confirmed Grigsby’s identity on a Zelle account and a T-Mobile cellphone.

Jan. 9: Police obtain a search warrant of Magee’s cell phone. The phone’s screening was completed in March of 2023.

Feb. 17: Police interview a victim’s mother. She tells them that her daughter is a victim of sex trafficking. She stated that Grigsby is an employee at Klein High School [sic] and possibly recruits young girls to work with her and Magee from the school. She said her daughter met Magee on Instagram, and she believed she had been groomed and held against her will at Grigsby’s home. She also told investigators that her daughter had told her she had been beaten over the course of her time as a prostitute and there was a total of eight prostitutes working for Magee.

According to the search warrant, there was no activity on the case after that interview until 2024.

Mar. 21: Investigators review Magee’s phone records, which show texts between him and the victims.

A conversation from October 30, 2022, shows a victim asking Magee if he has received a Zelle payment. Magee replies that he can’t confirm because his mother [Grigsby] is asleep.

Another conversation from the same date shows Magee providing a girl with Grigsby’s Zelle information for a prostitution transaction.

A conversation between Grigsby and a victim on November 4, 2022, shows Grigsby supplying the money for the hotel, and the victim referring to her as “mama.”

Mar. 22: A search is conducted to Securus Technologies, an incarcerated communications provider. The search is regarding phone calls that Magee made while incarcerated.

The return of that warrant revealed that on November 9, 2022, around 7:30 a.m.—hours after Magee was booked into the Harris County Jail—he spoke with his mom on the phone. During the conversation, Grigsby appear to allude to her job. Grigsby said, “I need to call my sub, can you hold on?” during the conversation, according to the court document. The mother and son went on to discuss her taking one of the victims to the hotel to retrieve a bag of clothing.

April 8: Police receive an arrest warrant for Grigsby. In collaboration with Klein ISD Police Department, Grigsby was arrested in her classroom that day.
