‘Profound sadness:’ Zwink Elementary custodian found dead inside vehicle died from medical emergency

KLEIN, Texas – Klein ISD confirms a custodian who worked at Zwink Elementary School died after suffering a medical emergency Tuesday.

The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office said the man was found unresponsive in a vehicle near the back of the school entrance in the 22200 block of Frassati Way Drive Tuesday morning.

EMS arrived and confirmed the man was dead.

Later Tuesday, Zwink Elementary’s principal, Stacey Vaglienty, sent a message to parents and staff of the school confirming the man who died was custodian Daniel Matthews.

Vaglienty said Matthews died after suffering a medical emergency. KPRC 2 was told Matthews may have suffered a heart attack.

“As adults, we are well aware of the substantial emotional impact that follows the death of a loved one or friend. We are working with our Klein ISD Crises Response Team to support any students and staff. Counselors and other support staff will be available to students, staff, and parents as needed,” Vaglienty said in the message.
