Man beaten with a crowbar in Webster has died, authorities say
WEBSTER, Texas โ Witnesses said a man in Webster was beaten with a crowbar and died Monday at a local hospital, authorities said. The death happened after a 911 call at around 10:45 a.m., Webster authorities said. The man was transported by ambulance to the HCA Clear Lake Hospital where he was pronounced dead. As of the initial social media post, officers said the suspect was inside an apartment and officers were attempting to make contact with him. AdTwo people were detained and the situation is now โunder control,โ Webster authorities said in an update on social media.
Seabrook man arrested in connection with child pornography investigation
Christopher Savage was arrested in connection with a child pornography investigation. WEBSTER, Texas โ Police have arrested a man in connection with a child pornography investigation being conducted by the Webster Police. According to the city of Websterโs Facebook page, police began their investigation into the possession and promotion of child pornography on Jan. 17, 2021, in Seabrook. On Monday, multiple law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant at a location on Hollybrook Drive, and Christopher Savage was taken into custody, authorities said. Police said further charges are possible, pending a forensic investigation.
Popular Italian restaurant in Webster-area closing after 50 years in business
HOUSTON โ Francaโs Real Italian Restaurant in the 1100 block of East NASA Parkway in the Webster area is closing its doors after 50 years, the owner announced on social media Thursday. According to its website, the restaurant opened in 1971 and was the only restaurant in the South Houston area for miles. The restaurant was a family affair for years with the design of the interiors, from murals to sculptures, all done by the patriarch โPapaโ Franco. Franca, the youngest daughter, eventually took over the business and is closing it now. The statement reads, โAfter 50 years of business in the Bay Area and with the changing times, I have made the difficult decision to not reopen Francaโs Real Italian Restaurant and Dinner Theatre.
Clear Creek ISD substitute teacherโs aid accused of sexual assault of a child, making child porn in 2016
WEBSTER, Texas โ Last June, Webster police were tipped off that dozens of images of child pornography had been uploaded to an online Dropbox account from an internet address in Webster. โOn that day we did find items like a cell phone with child pornography on it.โ said Webster Police Department Detective David Nettles. โHe corroborated the account on Dropbox was his and the email used to set it up was his.โInvestigators then connected Godoyโs email address to a 2016 child pornography case in Ohio. โThere were images from that investigation that were believed to be a minor child that he had access to and this was confirmed. Last September, Godoy was hired as a part-time substitute teacherโs aide by the Clear Creek Independent School District.

UTMB Health expected to lay off 200 as budget falls short by $174M, officials say in letter

Lanes reopen after accident causes major gridlock for commuters on Gulf Freeway, authorities say
WEBSTER, Texas โ Traffic on the Gulf Freeway is at a standstill due to an accident in the area. The accident happened around 6 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the Gulf Freeway at Bay Area Boulevard, according to the Webster Police Department. Authorities confirmed a person was hit by a vehicle, but they did not say what caused the accident. The Houston Police Department initially said that a person was killed in the accident. All main lanes in the area were shut down as investigators and crews worked to clear the scene.

Girl soccer star takes kicking talents to football field
ALVIN, Texas โ An Alvin High School student is getting a lot of attention for bringing her soccer talents to the football field. Erin Webster was the kicker for Alvin's varsity football team in the Yellowjackets' 50-14 win over Pasadena on Friday. Webster tore her ACL in May and recently recovered from surgery. Webster is a standout on the soccer field. She is a three-time varsity Letterman and has received multiple scholarship offers.

After the rain was over, some people were stranded for hours on the Gulf Freeway in Webster. Motorist John Hewitt says he was stuck for more than 10 hours while waiting for the water to recede. Hung Mai spent hours on the phone with his insurance company after his car got stuck in the mud. The Green Oaks Apartment complex sent a note to residents asking them to call the leasing office to coordinate cleanup efforts.
