MISSOURI CITY, Texas – Crash after crash and bumper to bumper traffic are two major problems the Texas Department of Transportation is targeting when it comes to improving Murphy Road in Fort Bend County. The heavily traveled road runs through Stafford and Missouri City. According to TXDOT, the number of crashes on Murphy Road needs to be cut and to do that they’re putting in a raised median that’ll extend from the Southwest Freeway all the way down to Highway 6. The project will place a continuously raised median along the entire stretch of roadway with designated left-turn lanes at certain intersections. TXDOT says this work should cost about $4 million, using both federal and state funding.

Man found shot on side of road near gas station in Stafford dies in Fort Bend County’s first homicide of 2021, deputies say

STAFFORD, Texas – A man is dead after he was found shot on the side of the road near a gas station in Stafford Tuesday, Fort Bend County deputies said. According to investigators, the 22-year-old man, identified as Camerron Long, was found around 2:24 a.m. on the side of the road at 812 FM/1092. Detectives said after further investigation, they learned that Long was involved in a shootout and was hit multiple times. Surveillance video from the On The Go corner store showed two parties meeting outside the convenience store and opening fire, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said the shooting is the first homicide of the year in Fort Bend County.

FTC reports sharp increase in phone scams

Americans have forfeited at least $450 million this way to government impostor scams since 2014, the FTC said and that only counts the victims regulators know about. Government impostors became the number one source of FTC complaints and now account for the lion's share of impostor scams overall. "Toward the fall, we started to see these scams really, really pick up." Thousands of consumers who reported the scam this year told the FTC they lost money. Last week, the FTC, Justice Department, and various states and local authorities brought nearly 100 cases against alleged robocallers.

Minivan crashes into water at The Fountains in Stafford

STAFFORD, Texas – Police are investigating after a minivan crashed into the water at The Fountains in StaffordThe accident happened around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the popular area home to several restaurants off the 59 Southwest Freeway. Sky 2 aerials showed a tow truck working to remove the submerged minivan. Police said it's unclear how the vehicle ended up in the water. The driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Man robs bank inside Walmart

STAFFORD, Texas – A man held up a bank inside a Walmart store on Monday. Stafford police said the robbery happened at the First Convenience Bank inside the Walmart in the 11200 block of West Airport about 2 p.m.Detectives said the robber handed a note to one teller and told the teller to pass the note to a second teller. The man demanded cash, which both tellers handed over, investigators said. The man left the bank on foot and then got into a 2006 to 2008 green Chevrolet Uplander, police said. A physical description of the man was not released.

Cellphone store ripped off for 20th time

HOUSTON – A Stafford cellphone store was burglarized early Friday and the owner said her store has been hit 20 times. The owner said the crooks caused $10,000 worth of damage in the 2 minutes they were in the store. "You got two doors completely damaged that have to be replaced and the back door we have to re-secure," said Lea Bogle, the store owner. In the past, thieves have rammed their car through the front of the store. The store owner said she is offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who can give police information that will lead to an arrest.
