KATY – A star quarterback for Katy High School, who made headlines last year for being caught on camera using a racial slur, is once again off the football team. Now, he is suing Katy ISD to be reinstated. The 19-year-old student was suspended in September after a Katy ISD police and a K-9 found a substance they believed to be marijuana in Bronson’s vehicle during a search of the Katy H.S. But in a letter dated September 28, less than two weeks after the incident, the Katy ISD superintendent Dr. Ken Gregorski appeared to clear McClelland of any wrongdoing. A spokesperson for Katy ISD would not answer questions about the case.

HOUSTON – According to Houston police Chief Art Acevedo, there were 286 murders as of the first week of October. “When you think about people committing murder and going out on bond after bond and committing more violent crimes,” Acevedo said. The family is from Dallas and has been to Houston frequently, scouring the neighborhood surrounding the murder for answers. Fueling a growing backlogThe rise in murders also helps fuel a backlog in Harris County criminal court. Devastation by Hurricane Harvey and the COVID-19 have created a large backlog in the criminal justice system that will take years to clear out.

HOUSTON – The mother of Maliyah Bass and her boyfriend are in custody and charged in connection with the death of the 2-year-old, Houston police said Tuesday. Court documents said the couple killed Maliyah and put her body in a storm drain, which was later recovered from Brays Bayou. On Aug. 22, Thompson and Ervin told reporters that Ervin left Maliyah alone for 5 minutes at a neighborhood playground while she was cooking. “The defendant and her boyfriend ... injured and killed the two-year-old complainant," said a court worker during Thompson’s probable cause court hearing. In 2019, Quanell X helped to bring 4-year-old Maleah Davis' body from Arkansas back to Houston.

HOUSTON – An investigation is underway after a violent encounter between a man and multiple Metro police officers. Metro chief Vera Bumpers says Activist Quanell X told her what happened earlier this week and she started an investigation. I’m burning, I’m burning,’” said Quanell X. Along with Quanell X, Cynthia Pharms and Dr. Candace Matthews with the Texas Coalition of Black Democrats are demanding justice for Morgan. Quanell X shared a graphic photo of Morgan’s stomach where he suffered from third degree burning.

DALLAS, Texas – Maliyah Bass, the missing 2-year-old who was found dead in Brays Bayou, will be laid to rest Friday in Dallas. According to the Sandra Clark Funeral Home, a service for the toddler will start at noon after which she will be buried at the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Maliyah was reported missing out of southwest Houston on Aug. 22, and her body was found by a jogger the following day, according to authorities. “…We need justice for this family.”Maliyah’s grandmother, Rosalie Jimerson, said she and her granddaughter had a social bond. And, I would be like, ‘Hi, my Tootie.’ I’ll never forget that,” she said.

HOUSTON – A small, makeshift memorial of balloons, flowers and candles could be seen Monday outside the southwest Houston apartment where 2-year-old Maliyah Bass lived. Neighbors who live there were not happy to see Maliyah’s mother and boyfriend return to the property with Houston activist Quanell X. Quanell X met with Maliyah’s mother and boyfriend inside their apartment and said the couple’s story left him with a lot of questions. In 2019, Quanell X helped to bring 4-year-old Maleah Davis’ body from Arkansas back to Houston. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences said they are still working to positively identify the child’s body, though police say it’s a high probability it is Maliyah’s body.

HOUSTON The niece of a missing elderly man with a mental disability canvassed the area surrounding a bus station near downtown Houston Wednesday, where he was last seen. Stewarts niece, Cassandra Stewart, said she drove her uncle to the Greyhound bus terminal, located at 2121 S. Main in Midtown. The two stops that were made up to Alexandria, Louisiana, he never made it off the bus, Quanell X said. Thats why we believe whatever happened to him, happened right here in Houston and somebody took his ticket, Quanell X said. Sharonda Davis spoke to Cassandra Stewart and Quanell X as they handed out missing persons fliers outside the bus station.

HOUSTON Family members of a woman killed Aug. 6 in northeast Houston said she had nothing to do with the online spat the led to a real-world confrontation. A 41-second bystander video encapsulates the chaos that led to the murder of Tammy Goody, 28, a mother of five. For one moment the video does show a man kneeling over the body of a woman lying motionless on the street. HOUSTON – Activist Quanell X and others are calling on Houston police Chief Art Acevedo to face the community and answer tough questions regarding the controversy and criminal charges that hit his department nearly a week and a half ago. Well man, come on forward and answer these serious questions about how did you have all of that happening under your watch?,” Quanell said. It comes weeks after Chief Acevedo was everywhere on television and social media. Prior to today’s news conference, Mayor Turner made his position on Acevedo clear to Channel 2 Investigates,“I have 100% confidence in him and I think most Houstonians do as well,” Turner said. Quanell X questioned the mayor after being informed of his stance.

HOUSTON – The family of 18-year-old Davion Edison watched the body camera footage of his December 2019 shooting Monday and said they believed the shooting was justified. In a press conference with activist Quanell X, family members said they wanted the body camera footage of the fatal shooting to be released to the public. After reviewing the footage, Quanell X and Edison’s family held a press conference. “Don’t give them an excuse to shoot you," Quanell X said. “From what I witnessed, HPD, they did fire, but not like the Pasadena Police Department did,” Quanell X said.

“I just want justice that I know I’ve been fighting for since December 30, 2019,” said Williams Linzer. During the Justice or Death Rally Wednesday, activist Quanell X demanded police departments release body camera videos after officer-involved shootings. The issue isn’t entirely cut and dry because some families don’t want the video released. Williams Linzer said police told her the video could not be released because the incident was still under investigation. “I want to see it myself, and I want it released to everyone,” Williams Linzer said.

HOUSTON – A community in mourning is questioning what led to the killing of Austin High School honor student Atiba Jeffrey. “This young man was in school doing the right thing about to graduate. This young man (has) never been in trouble," he said. Farrell said her son wanted to serve the country after graduating high school this year. Anyone with information on the shooting and killing Jeffrey should call HPD.

HOUSTON – Arthur Cash, 71, says he’s thankful to be alive after being shot just outside his home located in the 3000 block of Dacca Drive. “He was going back between the truck and he turned around and shot me,” Cash said. The gunman shot Cash in the hip and stole $1,900 in rent money and a few prescription pills“I think it’s wrong for them to go around shooting elderly people. He said this was the second time an elderly person had been targeted in the community in recent weeks. “It’s a shame that we have to live in an age where we have to live like this,” Cash said.
