Major I-45 closure planned this weekend south of Houston

Interstate 45 will be closed in Dickinson from late Friday to early Monday as crews demolish the Holland Road bridge over the freeway. The road will eventually go underneath I-45 once a new overpass is built in the coming years.

WATCH LIVE: Dickinson mayoral race will be decided by drawing names from hat

DICKINSON, Texas – A mayoral race in Galveston County will be decided in an unusual, but not unprecedented, way. A recount Tuesday confirmed that each candidate received 1,010 votes of the 2,020 votes that were cast. In this case, the names of each candidate will be placed in a hat. The drawing will happen at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Dickinson City Council Chambers, where the mayor of neighboring Friendswood will draw the name. Some races have been decided by other games of chance such as flipping a coin or drawing cards.

Galveston County judge signs executive order permitting $1,000 fine against poll workers who turn away maskless voters

Galveston County Judge Mark Henry signed an executive order Friday prohibiting the requirement to wear a face mask while voting. The county will enforce a $1,000 fine against poll workers who turn away voters who don’t wear a mask. Henry said he signed the order after several county residents were turned away from the polls because they were not wearing a mask. He also admitted that he was also turned away from voting because he refused to wear a mask. “This is a significant constitutional issue,” Henry said during the press conference.

DA launches probe into how FEMA money is being handled in Dickinson, sources say

DICKINSON, Texas – A Texas Ranger arrived at Dickinson City Hall on Monday with a subpoena for records. City Administrator Chris Heard met with him briefly but said he can’t talk about what they discussed. Friction between Heard and Hunter led to Hunter recently being place on paid leave after only two months on the job. “She brought up some concerns and we will just work through any issues that have arisen,” Heard said. A spokesman for the District Attorney’s office said he can neither confirm nor deny an investigation is underway.

Missouri City and Dickinson join other cities as people are required to wear masks in businesses

On Sunday morning, Missouri City joined a list of other cities now requiring people to wear a mask while visiting local businesses. The mandatory mask order went into effect at midnight. In Pearland, the mayor issued a similar order requiring businesses to make mask-wearing mandatory or face a $1,000 fine. According to the order, face masks are to be worn in public. The new mask orders are parallel to orders in Harris and Fort Bend counties.

Remember when: 2017 snow across Houston

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- On this day in 2017, snow blanketed the Houston area.A wintry dusting of snow fell overnight on Dec. 7-8 from College Station to Houston.Areas closer to the coast like Dickinson and La Marque also experienced snow.And while it may seem like a rarity to have snowfall in Houston, it happens more often than you may think. Since 1881, it has snowed 94 times in Houston.But the mother of all snows came on Valentine's Day in 1895. Houston was hit with 20 inches of snow on Feb. 14 and 15. The snow didn't just fall in Houston. Pennys Beer Garden opens just south of League City

Pennys Beer Garden opened Aug. 16 at 1001 N. FM 646, Dickinson. The business combines an urban farm, farmers market and taproom. The beer garden grows fresh fruits and vegetables on site for sale at its market and at other local vendors. The taproom serves local Houston area craft beers, wines and ciders. Pennys Beer Garden is children- and pet-friendly.

Hill Ave Clinic closes in League City

Hill Ave Clinic, 451 E. FM 646, Ste. A, Dickinson, closed permanently over the summer after only a few months of operation. The pediatric clinic was the second location for Dr. Rahman Uddin and his staff, the first location being the Pediatric Clinic of La Porte, 10407 W. Fairmont Parkway, Ste. B, La Porte. The La Porte location is still open.

Dickinson football player flown to hospital with injury

FRIENDSWOOD, Texas – A high school football player was flown to a hospital after an injury during Friday's game between Friendswood and Dickinson. The injured player was from the visiting Dickinson Gators. Witnesses told KPRC 2 the player was hurt after being tackled by a group of players. It is unclear what injuries the player suffered or what is his condition.
