Organizers with the Houston Tenants Union say about half of residents in the 383-unit complex are participating in a rent strike after deciding not to pay rent on March 1. Organizers say water has been restored to most units over the past week. Still, deciding to participate in the rent strike was a difficult decision, she said.

Chabad Centers of Houston to give out Passover kits to Jewish Houstonians
HOUSTON โ Reserved Seder-to-Go kits can be picked up by individuals and volunteers in drive-thru fashion on Tuesday at multiple locations for Passover. The kits can be picked up at the Chabad of Uptown, located at 4311 Bettis Dr., at 11 a.m. - noon and at Chabad of West Houston, located at 12645 Whittington Dr., from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. is still taking reservations for kits to deliver to Jewish patients at Texas Medical Center area hospitals. With 12 Chabad centers throughout the Houston metropolitan area, a spokesperson said Chabad has been well-positioned to provide for the widespread Jewish community. Rabbi Dovid Goldstein said that he distributed nearly 100 kits at the West Houston location.

Adokoe Akue will face charges of manslaughter and reckless, aggravated assault in connection to the crash near the intersection of Westheimer Road and South Dairy Ashford, said Charles Cornelius, a vehicular crimes investigator with the Harris County District Attorneys Office. The crash instantly killed the 21-year-old woman, who has not been identified and caused a fractured arm and serious internal injuries to a male passenger in her car, according to authorities. Akue was hospitalized with a fractured leg. He will be held on $40,000 bond.

Julio Coreas, 18, was charged with reckless driving and taken into custody Tuesday after the viral video led to an investigation. It was her daughters first time riding a school bus and Kirk-Taylor wanted to capture the moment. In that moment a blue Toyota Corolla blew past the bus, narrowly missing Kirk-Taylors daughter. Cyclist dies after SUV strikes him in West Houston, bicycle stolen from scene, police sayHouston Police officers responded around 10 p.m. Monday to reports of a major accident night involving a bicycle and a vehicle in the street at the inbound service road of the Katy Freeway at Beltway 8, said Houston Police Lt. Larry Crowson. The incident occurred in the intersection of the service road of Katy Freeway, Crowson said. Officers believe the bicycle was traveling north on the Beltway 8 service road while the vehicle was headed eastbound on the Katy Freeway service road, he said. The driver of the Hyundai Santa Fe SUV remained at the scene, and officers do not believe he was impaired, Crowson said. Officers have reason to believe the bike thief may have been a friend who was riding with the cyclist on a separate bicycle, he said.
