Houston Spaceport to be home to worldโs first commercially built space station
HOUSTON โ The Houston Spaceport will be home to the worldโs first space station to built by a commercial space company. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner announced Tuesday that Axiom Space will build a 14-acre headquarters at the cityโs spaceport next year and provide 1,000 high-paying jobs. Suffredini said the first module of the Axiom space station is set to be launched in late 2024 and will be the first commercial module to be attached to the International Space Station. Once the ISS is retired, the Axiom modules will detach and remain in low-earth orbit. Axiom will also provide commercial missions to the space station, the first of which is expected to launch late next year, Suffredini said.

Project Brays is a $480 million improvement project thatโs been under construction since 2000. Residents in Meyerland and Westbury credit the improvements that including widening the channel and bridge modifications, for sparing their homes from flooding during Tropical Storm Beta. Before Harvey, the majority of the work involved with Project Brays had been finished. While Project Brays protected that area from flooding during Beta, every major rain event in Houston is different. Thatโs the big thinking going forward , thatโs going to take a much larger investment," Hidalgo said.
Woman shot with AR-15 at stoplight in Meyerland, police say
MEYERLAND, Texas A woman was shot with an AR-15 in a possible road rage incident Thursday, police said. Police said it happened on South Braeswood near the South Loop in Meyerland. According to investigators, a vehicle with a man and woman inside pulled up next to the victim and police said things turned violent quickly. Police are still searching for the suspected shooter and the other woman who was in the vehicle. Investigators say they were driving a white car.
HPD: Woman shot with assault rilfe at busy intersection in Meyerland area
HOUSTON A woman was shot at an intersection near the Meyerland area Wednesday evening after she was approached by a suspect vehicle, the Houston Police Department says. According to police, several shots were fired and the victim was hit once before she managed to drive away. Police say the suspect vehicle with a man and woman inside pulled up next to the victim and were trying to get her attention when things quickly turned violent. Family ambushed, robbed at gunpoint while leaving for dinner near Meyerland
The victim, who didnt want to be identified, said he was held at gunpoint and led back into his home in southwest Houston. One of them had a gun to my head and was like give me all your stuff, the victim said. According to the victim, he, his girlfriend and 7-year-old daughter were leaving for dinner when the intruders approached them in the apartments parking lot. The victim said one of the armed men stayed back with his family and took his girlfriends car keys and phone. According to the victim, the robbery took less than two minutes and the suspects didnt get away with much.
Highly-anticipated H-E-B to open in Meyerland next week after last store closed due to Harvey flood damage
HOUSTON โ Beloved Texas grocery store chain, H-E-B is set to open its doors in Meyerland next week after the community was without an H-E-B store since 2017 following flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey. The highly-anticipated two-story store in the Meyerland Plaza will open on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 4700 Beechnut Street. In October 2017, H-E-B closed the location at North Braeswood Boulevard and Chimney Rock Road after it incurred severe flood damage. The grocery store chain decided not to reopen that location. โWe have always planned to continue our legacy in Meyerland and we canโt wait to open our doors next week to this very patient, resilient community.โ

HOUSTON โ A Meyerland home is decked out for Hanukkah in a way that defies the traditional minor festival characterization of the Jewish holiday. A massive menorah, inflatable bear and dreidels sparkle amid blue and white lights at this home in the 5100 block of Carew. The home owner, Philip Grosman, told KPRC 2 via email that he does this display every year, and it blinks to Hanukkah music. โI'm trying to spread the word about our Hanukkah display,โ he wrote. Meyerland families still displaced year after Memorial Day flood
HOUSTON โ Families who live in the Meyerland neighborhood find themselves still unable to move back into their homes 12 months after the Memorial Day weekend flooding of 2015. He and several of his neighbors are waiting for grant money so they can raise their homes above flood elevation. The grant money is expected to pay for more than 40 homes to be raised, some five feet. Many people have repaired and moved back into their homes since Memorial Day. Some were flooded again during the Tax Day flood in mid-April.
