TxDOT launches anti-drunk driving effort for Spring Break
By RICK KELLEYStaff WriterTxDOT has launched a new anti-drunk driving campaign in hopes of reducing the number of alcohol-related fatalities during Spring Break. In Texas last year over Spring Break, there were 872 DUI-alcohol related traffic accidents, resulting in 30 fatalities and 107 serious injuries, TxDOT officials say. The new anti-drunk driving campaign will conduct outreach events on college campuses and at key spring break designations using public service announcements, outdoor billboards and more. One person in Texas dies every eight hours and 31 minutes in a DUI-alcohol related traffic crash, TxDOT data shows. “These are disturbing numbers, especially as all of these crashes are preventable,” said TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams.

The exhibit will feature a dozen animatronic prehistoric creatures, like an eight-foot-tall terror bird, a saber-toothed tiger and T-Rex’s larger cousin Giganotosaurus. The Houston Zoo said its health and safety guidelines are still in effect after the governor announced the ending of the statewide mask order and reopening Texas. More than 40 spring breakers who ignored public health advice test positive for coronavirus
What's also alarming is that some of the passengers who went on the trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, took commercial flights home, the Austin Public Health Department said. Dozens of other passengers from the chartered flight are being monitored, public health officials said. The local public health department and UT Health UT Health Austin and University Health Services have contacted all of the passengers on the plane using flight manifests from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. "The university is working closely with Austin Public Health to assist in contact tracing," university spokesman J.B. Bird said. Mexico was not under a federal travel advisory when this happened, health officials said.

HOUSTON – More cases of coronavirus are surfacing in the greater Houston area, and they are all linked to a Nile River cruise in Egypt. ”All of these individuals were on the same trip together... in Egypt,” said Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner. Three people in Maryland have tested positive for the coronavirus and have also been connected to the Nile River cruise, the Washington Post reports. The first positive Coronavirus test from the group was announced Wednesday in Fort Bend. KPRC 2 sources confirmed health officials are currently investigating another eight people because they were also on the same Egypt trip.
