Second Baptist School Magazine Feature: Let's Have Some Fun

JENNY MURDOCK LOOKS BACK ON HER LIFE SPENT ON THE GOLF COURSE AS SHE EMBARKS ON HER COACHING CAREER AT SECOND BAPTIST SCHOOL WITH AN INTERESTING PERSPECTIVE. She led her team to a state title as a senior and won every tournament she played that year. "He'd work hard all day, while I was going to Hawaii to play a golf tournament. Mark and Drew played multiple sports at Stratford High School and Turner will be a freshman at Second Baptist School. Some don't love tournament golf and posting a score at the end of their round.

Second Baptist School Magazine Feature: Staying Connected

AS MIKE WALKER STOOD ON THE SIDE OF THE FIELD WATCHING THE SECOND BAPTIST SCHOOL JUNIOR VARSITY BASEBALL TEAM FACE OFF AGAINST KINKAID, A THOUGHT CROSSED HIS MIND. As the Director of Athletics for Second Baptist School, Walker, like many, had to quickly pivot his athletic department from in-person, on-campus teaching to being fully online. "I evaluated where we are, mapped out where we need to be and talked through these strategies with coaches," Walker said. "I am really excited about the future of SBS Athletics. The SBS athletics department worked hard to stay connected with each other and their student athletes during the worldwide pandemic, and it looks like their efforts paid off.

The recent University of Northwestern at St. Paul graduate who was engaged when arriving was named the head baseball coach at Second Baptist School and on the staff for the first football season. He was a former professional baseball player reaching Triple-A within the Houston Astros organization and a former college baseball coach. He was then hired by Wayne Graham at Rice University for three years before going back to UH in 1994 as the head baseball coach until 2010. FBCA Magazine Feature: He's Got the Juice

Whether pumping himself up on the golf course or as a Student Section Leader at a Fort Bend Christian Academy football game, Campbell has some juice. My parents sat me down and just explained they weren't going to shell out money if I didn't see a future in golf." "It's golf, school and family-time. Second Baptist School Magazine Feature: Win Today

Emily Blackmon Photo by Bradley Collier of VYPE MediaThe run to a second straight TAPPS Final Four has put Second Baptist School on the map when it comes to women's basketball. During Herndon's emotional post-game speech, he and other coaches touched on the fact of the young girls at Second Baptist School looking up to them. As the seniors walk away, their goal is that what they have done and the example they have been to every young girl at Second Baptist School pays off years down the road for the program. "We want Second Baptist School to be a girls' basketball powerhouse," Ryan said. I hope they keep sticking with basketball because Second Baptist is about to be a girls' basketball powerhouse for good."

Running is Family Tradition for Shearer

FOR BEN SHEARER, RUNNING IS A FAMILY TRADITION. He won the Class 4A TAPPS individual title in October by over a minute to lead his team to its third- straight state title. His sister Hannah won two state titles for the Warriors back in 2014 and 2016. While Shearer is uber-talented, he knows what is the cornerstone of being a cross- country star. Shearer finished fifth at the Nike Cross-National South Regional Meet, before winning the 2020 Carl Lewis High School Indoor Invitational in the one-mile race.

TWCA Magazine: Iron Sharpens Iron

With me being here, it allows for his coaches to solely develop their athletes on the field. Walker played soccer at Bay Area Christian and in community college before finishing his exercise science degree at Baylor. Without the kids, it's just a field and rubber and iron.

FBCA Magazine Feature: A life in the Arts

I think the same kind of passion that Kelly Carroll brings to sports is what I bring to fine arts." But Sanders will quickly tell you it's not all about the eight TAPPS Arts State Titles (2019, 2018, 2017, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011). AFTER A FEW YEARS OF TURNOVER INSIDE THE VOLLEYBALL PROGRAM, FORT BEND CHRISTIAN ACADEMY HAS FOUND THEIR PROGRAM BUILDER. While an assistant at Episcopal, Edwards played a large role in developing elite talent while learning from one of the best in the business coach Amanda Watts. More Than A Game: High School Sports, Coaches Provide Life Lessons Beyond The Field
