HOUSTON – U.S. Fish and Wildlife officials said they are battling three large wildfires Thursday in the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge in southern Chambers County. HOUSTON – Many of you who have dogs or cats have seen them pancake themselves to the ground with their legs sticking out, resembling frog legs. According to the internet’s best resource for colloquial definition, the Urban Dictionary, that action is called “splooting” by most people. With the high heat, many Texans are seeing squirrels pancaked on the ground in their backyard, but there is no reason to be concerned. The gator had its sights set on 4-year-old Brandalyn Grande, who was playing with her brother and babysitter Friday along part of the creek that abuts her family’s home in League City. Alligator sightings happen in Clear Creek, Grande said. Cell phone video recorded the moment the alligator hunter was able to fit a rope around the alligator’s head. “You want to tell them about the alligator,” Grande asked Brandalyn. MERCEDES, Texas – Authorities seized animals including a white Bengal tiger, bobcat, kinkajou, porcupines, llamas, emus and deer after finding them at a South Texas residence while executing a search warrant last week. He said the narcotics investigation is ongoing but there were no arrests or charges related to the search warrant. Parks said that going in they had information that there were exotic animals at the residence, so they brought along game wardens. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said in a statement that game wardens had to euthanize the bobcat and two deer because they were being held illegally without permits and their origin was unknown. Parks said the other animals were taken to the Austin Zoo for medical evaluation and rehabilitation if needed.

Artist Sharnia-Mae Sturm, who is just 22, drew a cartoon of Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin on bent knew with his arms opened wide to accept the kangaroos, koalas and other animals into heaven. HOUSTON – The Houston SPCA’s Wildlife is trying to nurse a baby barn owl back to health. It seems that the little guy suffered two broken legs after a hard fall from a high nest.
