A mom in Lake Jackson tackled a fleeing suspect, who is accused of looking into her teenage daughter’s bedroom window. “First instinct was just to make sure he didn’t go any further,” said mom Phyllis Pena. Pena said she returned home from the store around 7 a.m. on Jan. 31 to find a man in her yard peeking into the window. Lake Jackson Police identified the man as Zane Hawkins, 19, who officers found nearby but he tried to get away. “It’s not very often that we have somebody that actually steps in, puts themself in harm’s way to assist in apprehending somebody,” Welch said.

ANGLETON, Texas – The Brazoria County Health Department has opened coronavirus vaccine appointments at four clinic locations. The clinics are located at Angleton, Alvin, Lake Jackson and Pearland. Health officials said the Angleton and Alvin health clinics are still administering second dose vaccines but are now beginning to take appointments for those needing the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Officials said people who are eligible to receive the vaccine under the current phases can make an appointment online by clicking here. Appointments are required to receive the vaccine.

HOUSTON – The family of a Lake Jackson boy killed by a brain-eating amoeba in the water supply has filed a lawsuit. The city of Lake Jackson and the Brazosport Water Authority are being sued for more than $1M. Langley said a deadly brain-eating amoeba was able to grow in the city’s water supply because tests discovered there wasn’t enough chlorine. “If the water supply was tested and tested frequently this could have been detected and could have been prevented,” he added. The Center for Disease Control was also called in to test the water supply.

The notice was lifted after the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality reported disinfectant residuals were above the state’s required standards throughout the city’s water system, city officials said. The “Do Not Use” water advisory came after 6-year-old Josiah McIntye contracted a rare and fatal brain eating amoeba. Those samples came from the city’s splash pad storage tank, a downtown fire hydrant and the 6-year-old’s home. The advisory was lifted Saturday morning for all areas excluding Lake Jackson, which is currently under a ‘Boil Water’ notice. These services are limited to absolute necessity for those in Lake Jackson city limits.
