5-year-old sexually assaulted in Lake Jackson park, police say; 15-year-old accused in case

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – A 5-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a 15-year-old at Lake Jackson’s MacLean Park on Monday, police said.

Lake Jackson Police Department said in a news release on Tuesday that the teen -- who is not identified due to his age -- reportedly inappropriately touched the child in the restroom before leaving towards the Recreation Center.

Police received a call about a possible sexual assault in progress just after 12:30 p.m. in the 90 block of Lake Road in Lake Jackson.

Police found the 15-year-old, arrested him, and he was charged with aggravated sexual assault, a first-degree felony, due to the age of the victim, and injury to a child, a third-degree felony, for contact he had with another child in the same area.

Details of the latter charge were not released by Lake Jackson police.

The teen was later taken to the Brazoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
