National Weather Service confirms EF-0 tornado touched down in Brazoria County Friday

BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas – The National Weather Service confirms an EF-0 tornado briefly touched down Friday in Brazoria County.

The weather service said it touched down at approximately 5:56 a.m. three miles west-northwest of Lake Jackson on the southeast side of Brazoria Reservoir.

They said the tornado broke and uprooted trees, damaged powerlines, and caused minor structural damage to nearby homes with its estimated 80 mph peak winds.

The tornado was on the ground for just over half a mile before lifting at 5:58 a.m. four miles west-northwest of Lake Jackson.

No injuries were reported.

The weather service said preliminarily, this is the first tornado in the United States in 2024.
