Harlingen man pleads guilty to causing wreck that killed San Benito woman

A 22-year-old Harlingen man is waiting to be transported to a Texas Department of Criminal Justice facility after pleading guilty to an intoxication manslaughter charge. Luis Zuniga IV admitted to causing a Dec. 17, 2020, wreck that killed Maria Del Carmen Rocha, 64, of San Benito. Zuniga IV appeared Monday before 404th state District Court Judge Ricardo M. Adobbati via Zoom where he pleaded guilty to one count of intoxication manslaughter. Zuniga IV is currently being held at a Cameron County jail until he is transferred to the TDCJ facility. A Cameron County grand jury on Feb. 17, 2021 indicted Zuniga IV on the intoxication manslaughter charge.

Brownsville mom pleads guilty to crash that left her son dead

A 32-year-old Brownsville mom has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison after pleading guilty to intoxication manslaughter charge that left her 13-year-old son dead. Ernestina Garcia appeared before 404th state District Court Judge Gloria M. Rincones via Zoom where she entered her guilty plea on Monday. According to a July 21, 2021, Cameron County indictment, Garcia had an alcohol concentration of at least 0.08 in her body at the time of the accident. Garcia waived the reading of the indictment against her on Monday and ended her guilty plea. Although she is currently being held in custody at a Cameron County jail facility, Rincones ordered she be sentenced to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice System for 10 years.

Sentencing delayed in McAllen woman’s murder

The sentencing of a McAllen man accused of killing his estranged wife and dumping her body in the Laguna Madre in April 2017 has been postponed. However, since he will be a state witness in the trial of Monte Eric Jordan, also accused of killing Martha Adams, prosecutors requested his sentencing occur after he testifies. At the time of Jordan’s arrest, authorities said Jordan allegedly participated in the killing and disposal of Martha Adams’ body. Investigators reported finding zip ties in Jordan’s vehicle similar to zip ties used to bind the victim. According to those indictments, the suspects are accused of possibly injecting Martha Adams with some type of substance.

The number of people seeking unemployment benefits fell sharply last week to 684,000, the fewest since the pandemic erupted a year ago and a sign the economy is improving. Zoom reports big 3Q gains, but slowing growth sinks stock

Zoom’s revenue more than quadrupled from the same time last year to $777 million, yielding a profit of $198 million, up from just $2.2 million a year ago. Zoom ended its latest quarter with 433,700 customers with at least 10 employees, an increase of 63,500 customers from July. In each of the previous two quarters, Zoom had added more than 100,000 customers with at least 10 employees. In a reflection of the high hopes for Zoom, analysts polled by FactSet predict the company’s revenue next year will reach $3.1 billion. That would be a roughly 20% increase from revenue of nearly $2.6 billion that Zoom is projecting for this year.
