It comes as no surprise that Fulshear’s junior OH Bailey Warren has garnered the attention of college recruiters, after ascending to the leadership role on both her high school and club teams.

After putting up some big numbers over the past three-plus years and enduring the recruitment process, Concordia Lutheran’s Lou Lamar finally has a place to call home at the conclusion of this school year.

Standing out comes easy when you’re a four-star safety on a perennial powerhouse like Shadow Creek senior Maurice Williams. However, it might be surprising to hear that the LSU-turned-Houston commit doesn’t exactly relish having all the eyes on him.

Kiandrea Barker transferred from Bebee, Arkansas to The Woodlands High School this Spring. He was the No. 1 prospect in Arkansas for the Class of 2025. Since moving, he has earned a Top 10 ranking in the Lone Star State.

District 13-6A has some of the quarterback in the country in Willis’ Derek Lagway Jr. (Florida Commit) and The Woodlands’ Mabrey Mettauer (Wisconsin Commit). But a new name has entered the chat. Class of 2026 Grand Oaks quarterback Grant Smith recently picked up his first offer from Texas A&M and looks the part. Could he be the next big thing to come out of Conroe ISD?

Houston has become an epicenter for quarterbacks in the Class of 2024 from the likes of Willis’ DJ Lagway (Florida), The Woodlands’ Mabrey Mettauer (Wisconsin) and Cy-Fair’s Trey Owens (Texas). Add another BCS QB commit to list. Episcopal junior quarterback Karson Gordon was one of the top private school QBs in the state last year, throwing for 2,345 yards and 28 TDs while rushing for 760 yards & 9 TDs.

A pair of 2024 football prospects from the same school earned an Under Armour All-American Game Invite last weekend during the Under Armour Underclassmen Report Camp at Planet Ford Stadium.

The recruiting game never stops, especially in this college football climate.

The Class of 2023 has signed and solidified their spots on collegiate team. Now, college coaches have turned their attention to the Classes of 2024, 2025 and 2026.

Sugar Land, Texas — Fort Bend Christian Academy students and families gathered on campus on Wednesday, February 1, to celebrate five outstanding athletes as they signed National Letters of Intent to play sports at the collegiate level. Three athletes signed to play football, one signed to play football and baseball, and one athlete signed for cheerleading.

The John Cooper School Athletic Department held a signing ceremony on Wednesday, February 1 in the Dunlap Gymnasium to recognize senior Kade Meyer who will be competing at the college level in the fall of 2023.

Brady Dever’s first love was baseball. Growing up, he always had a glove or bat in his hand. But as a sophomore two years ago, he started to realize it was football that could take him somewhere.

VYPE recently went out to Willis high school for their Fall 2022 Media day and caught up with 5-Star QB DJ Lagway, who had a very impressive Sophomore year.

HOUSTON - Zion Taylor doesn't play like most freshman defensive ends.

HOUSTON - When Logan Tanner got home from his lacrosse game, he went to check the mail. The mailbox was chuck full of letters from college coaches from the programs that have offered the three-star tight end from St. Pius X. The tight end finished with 1,059 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns on 43 catches and believes his best attributes is his versatility and route running. The recruiting process has been a "roller coaster" Tanner says and after June 1 he plans on visiting every school that has offered him along with Kansas State, Tennessee, Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M and SMU. "Lacrosse translates well because I've learned to use my hips a lot better which helps my route running and blocking," Tanner said.

When watching Owens tear through an offensive line, you may see flashes of Adrian Peterson's style and power and Barry Sanders' vision. When Owens was just four years old, his father Rueben Owens Sr. placed a football and basketball in front of him. Two years later, Owens got the nickname that is emblazoned in his Twitter profile - #BlackUnicorn. "My father gave me that nickname, because he says I'm a rare breed, a different type of beast," Owens said. Owens slid right into the running back rotation for the Ricebirds, which can be daunting for a freshman being thrust into varsity play.

As Strickland goes through this fall, the recruiting process will be different for the senior than any previous signing class in probably the history of college football. Strickland has put Fort Bend Christian Academy on the map when it comes to the recruiting ranks, especially now getting a Big 10 Conference blue-blood on his radar.

HOUSTON - The Elite 11 finalist is heading to the University of Houston. Kopp's final five schools came down to the University of Houston, Ole Miss, Colorado, Tulane and Wyoming. Last season for St. Thomas, Kopp passed for 3,089 yards and 28 touchdowns. Braden, donning a red St. Thomas polo sat just to the left of little brother Maddox and Miller when the decision happened. Miller (2018 Houston Christian graduate) is currently at Northwestern and Anderson (2019 St. Thomas graduate) is at Lamar University, both of whom play basketball.

HOUSTON - A day after the Pac-12 Conference pushed its 2020 football season to the spring, now so has one of the country's top recruits. Campbell, a four-star running back prospect in the Class of 2021, announced via his Twitter account Wednesday night that he has decided to forego his senior season and instead prepare to early enroll at USC. Campbell played his junior season for Pearland. Prior to his junior year, Campbell spent his freshman season at Mayde Creek and sophomore year at Katy Taylor. So, if the Pac-12 does indeed play a season in the spring, Campbell could see the gridiron then.

HOUSTON - The Elite 11 changed everything for Maddox Kopp. On Wednesday, Kopp narrowed his list to a Top 5 - Houston, Tulane, Wyoming, Colorado and Ole Miss. When asked what he's examining the most in his ultimate decision, Kopp said it all comes down to fit. HOUSTON - The heartbeat of the Houston Heights women's hoops team is heading to UTEP. "The relationship I have built with the coaches & team over the past several months really made UTEP feel like home," Heights point guard Gracelynn Alvarez, who verbally committed to the Miners on Sunday, said. Alvarez was a key part to Heights posting an impressive 26-9 overall record and going 11-1 in district play last season. In fact, the Alvarez family built their own basketball court from the ground up in their backyard. "I've been playing ball since I was four-years-old and I can honestly say this is my passion," Alvarez said.

Fort Bend Hightower signal-caller Jakolby Longino verbally committed to UTEP earlier this week, which gave the Miners their first verbal commit of the Class of 2021. "Coach Canales is a great coach and he has coached multiple NFL QB's," Longino said. Longino had three offers - Texas Southern, Prairie View A&M and UTEP - when he decided to commit. At the end of the day, the UTEP coaches were up front and honest, which went a long way with Longino. Looking at UTEP's 2020 signing class, the Miners didn't sign a quarterback during that session and Longino is the first 2021 prospect to verbal.

HOUSTON - In an instant Foster women's basketball just got a major boost for the 2020-2021 season. On Wednesday, it was reported that Ensworth High School guard Kaiya Wynn would be transferring to Foster High School for her senior season. Wynn is a five-star prospect verbally committed to the University of Tennessee. Last season, Wynn helped guide Ensworth to an undefeated 28-0 mark and helped them win the DII-AA State Championship. The incoming senior joins a Foster women's basketball program that went 23-13 last season and reached the third-round.
