To facilitate necessary pavement repairs on I-45 North Freeway northbound main lanes between Quitman Street to N. Main Street, crews will have several closures taking place beginning Friday, May 19 at 9 p.m. to Monday, May 22 at 5 a.m.

HOUSTON – A man believes he was set up after five of his French Bulldog puppies were stolen from him on Houston’s west side. Days after checking into the hotel, Nij said he was held up at gunpoint and robbed of his puppies. He thinks back to last Friday when a man came up to him with his son to inquire about buying French Bulldog puppies. If you go and look at five or six in the afternoon, they’re all walking their dogs outside,” Nij said. “What’s also bad is every night the puppies’ mother cries and wines, I’d imagine it’s because she misses her puppies,” Nij said.

Driver killed in 3-vehicle crash near Buc-ee’s on Katy Freeway

HCSO: 15-year-old female shot in possible road rage shooting near Katy Freeway

HPD: Officer-involved shooting stems from suspected road rage incident off-duty officer witnessed on Katy Freeway
HOUSTON – An officer-involved shooting overnight stemmed from a suspected road rage incident an officer witnessed on the Katy Freeway, according to the Houston Police Department. As he was driving outbound on I-10, east of Fry Road, he witnessed a suspected road rage incident occur. Someone in the suspect vehicle began firing at the officer and the officer returned gunfire. Using the suspect information provided by the off-duty officer, units soon after located a suspect vehicle and detained its occupants. The officer’s vehicle, the suspect vehicle and several other vehicles were struck by gunfire during the incident.

Firefighters respond to massive 3-alarm fire at apartment construction site in Katy area

Houston Traffic Volumes: Is traffic back to normal since the pandemic started?
Houston Transtar estimates 10 to 15% lower, to be exact, area-wide when comparing August 2019 to 2020. However, weekday afternoon peak numbers are seeing an uptick. Houston Transtar even says volumes are pretty much in line with what we saw in 2019. This same stretch of roadway, Katy Freeway at Voss, afternoon volumes were only down 2% in the afternoon compared to last year. Overall, when it comes to vehicle traffic volumes, the impacts of the pandemic are still being felt.

Man found with stolen mail during traffic stop in Harris County
A traffic stop turned up stolen mail in west Harris County. Deputies said they found papers, letters and other documents in the trunk of the vehicle. The stop happened at a Metro Park and Ride near Katy Freeway and the Grand Parkway, according to Harris County Sheriffs Office. US Postal inspectors have started a federal investigation. Deputies say the driver was charged with DWI.

Prosecutor: Bottle of liquor found in pocket of man charged in wreck that killed Houston healthcare worker
HOUSTON – The man accused of causing a fatal wreck on the Katy Freeway service road over the weekend faced a judge for the first time on Monday. Police said Amy Shypailo, 29, was killed Sunday when Freeman ran a red light and broadsided her car at the intersection of the Katy Freeway service road and Gessner. Teare said Shypailo was on her way to Memorial-Hermann Hospital in Memorial City, where she worked as a speech pathologist. Teare said Freeman told officers he had a fight with his girlfriend and was just driving around. She was an undergraduate Texas Longhorn before completing her graduate degree in Speech Pathology at the University of Houston.

Man suspected of drunk driving kills woman in crash on Katy Freeway
HOUSTON – Investigators believe a man was intoxicated at the time of a deadly crash on the Katy Freeway frontage road at Gessner Road on Sunday morning. “This defendant was just incredibly selfish and a woman is dead because of it,” Teare said. The woman was traveling southbound on Gessner Road at the time. We are in the process right now of obtaining a search warrant and getting that blood,” Teare said. Teare said the man is 33-years-old and facing a charge of intoxication manslaughter.

Deputy constable injured in crash on Katy Freeway
HOUSTON A deputy constable from Harris County Precinct 5 was injured Wednesday in a crash on the Katy Freeway. The crash was reported about 3:30 a.m. on the westbound side of Interstate 10 at North Post Oak Road. Authorities said the deputy was in a cruiser when the vehicle was hit from behind by another vehicle. The deputy suffered a back injury and was hospitalized. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

HCSO deputy accused of speeding over 120 mph while drunk on Katy Freeway, police say
KATY, Texas – A Harris County Sheriff’s deputy is accused of speeding over 120 mph while intoxicated on Katy Freeway, according to the Houston Police Department. Deputy Jose Garcia was charged with driving while intoxicated after he was pulled over in the 9800 block of Katy Freeway. According to police, an officer spotted a Tahoe traveling 121 mph in a 60 mph zone. When the officer pulled in behind the Tahoe, the vehicle was clocked at 110 mph in the 60 mph speed zone, police said. When the officer pulled Garcia over, he was described to have bloodshot eyes, smelling of alcoholic beverages.

2 people pulled from fiery crash in west Houston, firefighters say
HOUSTON – Two people were rescued from a fiery crash in west Houston, firefighters said. Firefighters said the accident occurred in the 11600 block of Katy Freeway at Kirkwood at around 4:40 a.m. The crash caused the road to be shut down. Firefighters said two people were trapped in the vehicle that caught fire. Authorities said the victims were transported to a nearby hospital, where they are in unknown condition.

Harris County restaurant defying orders to shut down dine-in service
Texas Borders Bar and Grill located off the Katy Freeway seemed not to be in compliance with Hidalgo’s county-wide order issued on Monday. Per the order, bars and clubs in Harris County should shut down and restaurants are only permitted to offer drive-thru service, delivery and/or curbside pickup options. According to former Texas Borders Bar and Grill employee Tara Marrocelli, the bar was open as usual. According to Garcia, Texas Roadhouse will now operate all 13 Houston locations with curb-side and drive-thru services only. Fort Bend County Judge KP George issued a similar order to the Harris County guidelines on Tuesday evening.

HOUSTON – An 18-wheeler involved in an accident has multiple lanes blocked on the I-10 Katy Freeway. The 18-wheeler appears to be blocking the westbound lanes on the I-10 Katy Freeway at Blalock. Houston Transtar video showed the first four lanes blocked. Only one lane is being utilized at this time. Police have urged drivers to find an alternate route.

Drivers met with runaway 10-foot cylinders after truck hits bridge on Katy Freeway
HOUSTON – Houston drivers know that being on the road in the city comes with a unique set of challenges, be it potholes, runaway tires or giant spools. On Monday, drivers on the Katy Freeway were met with a new challenge – giant, 10-foot cylinders. According to authorities, reports of the traffic hazard came in around 8:50 p.m. on the Katy Freeway at Houston Avenue near downtown. TxDOT officials said a big-rig was traveling eastbound on the Katy Freeway when the over-height cylinders struct the Houston Avenue bridge causing the load to come loose. Crews had to close at least two lanes in the area as they worked to clear the scene, and police had to park their vehicles against the cylinders to prevent them from rolling into traffic.

2 officers injured after patrol unit hydroplanes, crashes while trying to avoid disabled vehicle
HOUSTON – Two officers were injured after they were involved in a crash in west Houston. The incident happened around 1 a.m. Thursday on the Katy Freeway near Chimney Rock Road, authorities said. Police said the officers were heading westbound on the Katy Freeway when they came up on a disabled vehicle. The officers swerved from left to right to avoid the vehicle, which caused them to hydroplane and crash, authorities said. One of the officers may have suffered a broken wrist and a leg injury and the other may have a concussion, authorities said.

Liberty County deputy injured in west Houston crash
HOUSTON – A Liberty County deputy was injured Tuesday in a crash in west Houston. The crash was reported about 5:50 a.m. on the westbound side of Interstate 10 Katy Freeway at Kirkwood Road. According to Houston police, a car hit another car on the freeway and the second car hit the deputy’s motorcycle. It was not immediately clear if the deputy was on duty at the time of the crash. Several lanes of the freeway were blocked as investigators work to determine what caused the crash.

Fuel leak slows traffic after truck fire on Katy Freeway eastbound at Park Ten
A truck fire blocked three lanes of traffic on the Katy Freeway eastbound at Park Ten Friday morning. According to Houston TranStar, the fire broke out just before 8:30 a.m. The driver was able to safely pull onto the shoulder near Park Ten. Authorities said after the fire was put out, the truck started to leak fuel. HazMat crews are on the scene working to clean up the spill and to prevent any leakage from reaching nearby storm drains, officials said.
