Crash involving H-E-B big rig causes massive fire on IH-10 at Woods Road

SEALY, Texas – A crash involving an H-E-B big rig caused a massive fire on the Katy Freeway in Waller County Thursday.

Smoke was seen filling the air for most of the morning after the truck crashed on I-10 at Woods Road.

The fire reportedly began around 5 a.m. All lanes heading westbound remained closed nearly three hours after the incident.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, investigators believe the truck malfunctioned for an unknown reason. During the malfunction, the driver lost control, hit the freeway lane dividing wall, and then hit another vehicle. Both the truck and the other vehicle then burst into flames, investigators said.

Authorities said everyone was removed from the scene safely and no injuries were reported.

The H-E-B truck was carrying plastics at the time of the crash.

The truck driver is not facing any charges at this time.
