Tractor trailer crash in Rio Grande City leaves one hospitalized
The Rio Grande City Police Department responded to a crash that occurred on Business 83 and Blas Chapa at about 12:46 p.m. Monday that left one driver hospitalized, according to Assistant Chief Jose Solis. A silver Chevrolet pickup truck traveling westbound veered into the eastbound lane where it crashed into a Kenworth tractor trailer. The 19-year-old driver was airlifted to a local hospital for injuries sustained during the crash but is in stable condition. “We heard today that he was doing better,” Solis said. According to police, the truck driver didn’t sustain any injuries and if they did, they were minor.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a one-vehicle crash involving a San Benito resident who died at the scene Saturday afternoon, according to a news release. Jose Gustavo Cuestas, 45, of San Benito died at the scene after being pinned between his vehicle and a tree, the release said. DPS say the crash involving a blue 2014 Toyota Camry occurred at around 2:52 p.m. on FM 1421 north of FM 1732 in Brownsville. According to authorities, Cuestas was traveling northbound on FM 1421 when he lost control of his vehicle, veered off the roadway and into a residential property where he struck a tree. Brownsville fire and emergency services managed to extract Cuestas from the vehicle but the driver died at the scene, the release said.

Brownsville man killed in crash Friday
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a two-vehicle crash that left one person dead and another hospitalized Friday. Troopers said the crash occurred at about 3:20 p.m. Friday in the vicinity of State Highway 48 in Cameron County. A black Chevrolet Camaro was traveling westbound on the highway when a Ford F-150 driving on the improved shoulder changed lanes. Flores died of his injuries at the scene, according to the release. The driver of the Ford was taken to the nearest hospital.

According to a news release, U.S. Border Patrol agents were in pursuit of a 2003 Chevrolet pick-up truck traveling northbound on U.S. 281 north of Edinburg at approximately 9:14 p.m. on Tuesday. While attempting to evade the Border Patrol agents, the driver of the pick-up truck lost control of the vehicle and entered the center median before coming to a stop. At some point during the pursuit, a 22-year-old man, who was identified as Jesus Adrian Alvarado, was struck by the truck and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. DPS troopers are currently engaged in an investigation in the crash.
