A driver was killed Wednesday after a fiery single-vehicle crash along the Eastex Freeway feeder road in north Houston, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened around 1:38 a.m. in the 13900 block of the Eastex Freeway feeder road.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, preliminary evidence indicates the driver of a yellow Chevrolet Camaro failed to maintain a single lane of traffic before crashing into a light pole.
After the impact, the Camaro caught fire.
Deputies said the driver, who was the vehicle’s only occupant, was unable to escape. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
No passengers were in the vehicle, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Investigators are working to determine what led up to the crash. Deputies said alcohol, speed and whether the vehicle may have been racing all remain under investigation.
The identity of the driver has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the crash.
