According to Houston Transtar, the right shoulder along with the right lane and center lane are currently closed.

Houston Police say no one was hurt when the 18-wheeler struck the bridge around 7:30 p.m.

This is the third time in the last five days that the bridge has been struck. The last one happened on Saturday night and a similar incident happened last Thursday.

Earlier Monday, KPRC 2’s Deven Clarke reported on the recurring collisions with the bridge. TxDOT has implemented multiple safety measures in the area including:

  • Three oversized load detection systems in both eastbound and westbound directions
  • Flashing warning signs that activate when oversized vehicles are detected
  • Multiple advance warning signs along I-10

A long-term solution is in the works as TxDOT plans to demolish and reconstruct the Houston Avenue bridge. The demolition is scheduled to begin in early 2027 and is expected to be completed by mid-2028.
