FBCA Softball Claims District Crown
Fort Bend Christian Academy softball has claimed another district crown, going undefeated in district play. FBCA softball is a perennial power in TAPPS Division II and they have their eyes on another state crown. The Lady Eagles won the State Championship in 2018, and you can expect this squad to compete for a State Championship again.
Fort Bend Christian blanks Brentwood Christian 4-0 to advance in playoffs
For the Fort Bend Christian Academy Warriors, playing a home playoff game is something they haven't done in over a decade. On Monday, the Eagles not only hosted a playoff game but also won one, defeating Brentwood Christian 4-0 to advance in the TAPPS Division II Soccer Playoffs. Senior Ian Aviles scored three of the Eagles' four goals on the afternoon and was named the VYPE Player of the Match. VYPE also was able to catch up with FBCA men's soccer coach Jason Westfahl after the match.

I think the same kind of passion that Kelly Carroll brings to sports is what I bring to fine arts." But Sanders will quickly tell you it's not all about the eight TAPPS Arts State Titles (2019, 2018, 2017, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011). In fact, this past spring Sanders graduated with his Masters of Fine Arts in Sculpture and Ceramics. Some FBCA fine arts students have gone on to do amazing things in college including Marisa Torres, who works for Nickelodeon Animation as an Artist Program-Design Track.

KADEN KRAM IS THE CAPKram is a Fort Bend Christian Academy lifer, who has starred on the diamond since his freshman season. Kram was also an academic all-state selection, which makes sense because he is headed to Princeton to play college ball. "I was in eighth grade when I really got motivated to play baseball in college," he said. "I'm really interested in AI (Artificial Intelligence). While Kram will continue to call pitches from behind the plate in college, he's still disappointed how this season ended.

Nyah White had a breakout junior season earning first-team, all-district and all-state, honorable mention honors. Next year is going to be special if we continue to build on our connections." Father Larry White signed up Nyah for a rec league in the sixth grade and the dye was cast for the future forward. I trained and trained to make varsity as a freshman. White has learned so many life lessons through sports and sees her future always inter-twined with athletics.

Senior Jared Bohny also earned first-team, all-district honors, while junior Zion Granville earned a second-team nod. With LaRocca, Cole and Granville back in the huddle in 2020-21, Lewis has some pieces to get back in the TAPPS state conversation. Second Baptist reached the state finals, while FBCA fell in the Area Round. Same goes for the FBCA Eagles under the direction of coach Trey Phillips.

THE HARRIERS OF FORT BEND CHRISTIAN ACADEMY HAD SOME DEFINING HIGHS AND LOWS TO THE 2019 CROSS COUNTRY SEASON. "What our team really took away from the season was that cross country is a team sport. The boys team was led by senior Paul Sanchez and sophomore Dylan Weaver, while the girls were paced by Taylor Dailey and Madeline Font. Cole played both ways as a receiver and defensive back, earning first-team honors and was named the District Newcomer of the Year. The fall football season transitioned into basketball season, where Cole excelled as a guard. Playing football made me even stronger and more athletic on the basketball court." "I feel like sports relate so much to life," Jessup said. Another area that can be tough for a teenager especially a girl is social media. Jessup admitted there have been times that she has gotten off social media to give herself a break because about "70 percent" of it can be negative. But there is a positive side of social media, which she wants to harness the power of in the future of her ministry to others. "I think there's a lot of good things with social media," Jessup said.

After her season wrapped up for her Skyline club team, Hanner got the call-up to the first team that had earned a trip to Nationals. "It was after our warm-ups when I saw a college coach hand my coach his card," she said. Upon entering high school at FBCA, Hanner was moved up to varsity immediately. For now, Hanner hangs out with her best friends from volleyball, watches Netflix, works on her game and dives into her other hobbies. Who knows where that may take her, but Hanner knows how to make the most of an opportunity.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR CAN MAKEIn 2018, Fort Bend Christian Academy only played eight football games. The Eagles had to forfeit the final two games because they did not have enough players to field a football team. A year later, a new head coach and a new energy around the program - which went from 15 to 40-plus players on the roster - Fort Bend Christian Academy played its full 10-game regular season schedule. While an assistant at Episcopal, Edwards played a large role in developing elite talent while learning from one of the best in the business coach Amanda Watts. Yes, we had great players but you have to get them to buy in, keep them motivated and keep their eye on the prize. Coaching girls, Edwards is a big believer in communication.

"In 2015, [Will Scott] was coming into high school and he was interested in broadcasting," Eagles on the Air leader John Williams said.
