The 2020 Fall season has been a fast and furious one as sports have picked up steam. Aldine ISD had a slightly later start than other school districts around the city but Aldine, Davis, Eisenhower, Macarthur and Nimitz have hit the ground running on the football field, volleyball court, cross country courses and tennis courts. Aldine ISD fans will have to pick up this magazine. This 40-page magazine features ever football and volleyball team, cross country teams, a feature on the MacArthur team tennis program and stories about all the cover athletes. Aldine ISD hands out laptops, hotspots ahead of virtual start to school year
HOUSTON – Like many school districts in the Houston-area, the Aldine Independent School District is going to begin the school year with virtual learning. In order to meet the needs of students in the district and bridge the digital divide, Aldine ISD officials handed out Chromebooks and hotspots to hundreds of families Monday. The drive-thru distribution event took place at Aldine High School Monday afternoon ahead of the district’s Aug. 17 start date. District officials said more than 5,000 families signed up for the event and each family got one set of devices. With such a high need among students in the district, officials say they will plan a second event to hand out devices to more students.
Nimitz grad Michael Thomas talks homecoming with Texans, Nimitz HS, George Floyd
The former Nimitz High School standout signed with the Houston Texans back in April after spending last season with the New York Giants. In his short time being officially back in Houston, Thomas didn't waste any time reaching out to his community. "I just want to say congratulations to all the 2020 seniors who are graduating from high school," Thomas said during the video. No, this is not the vision you had as freshmen with nerves and scared of what high school would be like. "I always have love for Aldine," Thomas said.
13-year-old girl and man involved in violent crash after suspected carjacking, police say
HOUSTON – Authorities are investigating after they said they believe teen girl and man were involved in a violent carjacking in Aldine overnight. That’s when they said a wild chase began with the suspect behind the wheel reaching speeds of more than 100 mph. Police said a man and a 13-year-old girl in the car ended up crashing on Aldine Bender near Miranda. Investigators said the girl may have planned the carjacking, setting up a meetup, and then the man stole the vehicle at gunpoint. HPD handled the arrest and aggravated robbery charge, and Precinct 1 deputies are handling taking the charge of pursuit/failure to yield.

AK-47, crack seized by deputies in AldineAn AK-47 and crack cocaine were seized near Aldine Friday night after deputies followed the sound of gunshots. Harris County Sheriffs Office District 2 deputies heard the gunfire near the intersection of Aldine Westfield and Hopper Roads. The deputies arrested four men, whose identities have not yet been released to the public. The Ak-47, 23.1 grams of crack, a shotgun and a pistol were recovered from the suspects, according to the sheriffs office.chron.com
Driver leaving bar dies after striking fire hydrant, fence, sheriff says
When they arrived at the scene, deputies located a single sedan, Gonzalez said. According to deputies, it appears the sedan left the roadway, striking a fire hydrant and then a fence before flipping and landing near the complex. Family members first thought Mize had once again been arrested for DWI, only to find it was his crash. Residents reported hearing a speeding vehicle before the crash, Gonzalez said. When asked if the woman was involved in the crash, Gonzalez said they are unsure but still investigating the crash.

2 pedestrians struck by car, driver returned to scene after convinced by family
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Two people were injured Saturday night when they were struck by a vehicle in the Aldine area, authorities said.The collision happened in the 150 block of Aldine Bender Road around 11 p.m. An injured man and woman were located by police when they arrived.Authorities said the driver left the scene but later returned after being convinced by family members.Multiple children were found inside the vehicle, and there were no child car seats in use at the time, police said.Witnesses told authorities the driver had been drinking prior to driving. He faces charges of suspicion of driving while intoxicated and child endangerment.Both victims were taken to a hospital. HOUSTON - A man was found shot to death Friday night in a car near Aldine. The incident was reported about 9:40 p.m. on Mitchell Road near Airline Drive. Harris County deputies said they arrived to find the 51-year-old man dead. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477. Family of 4 escapes house fire in Greenspoint
The family of four who evacuated were not injured, he said. A firefighter who was battling the blaze suffered from heat exhaustion but was treated at the scene and returned to work, Navarro said. Fire crews were able to get the fire under control fairly quickly, and no other homes were affected by the blaze, he said. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but firefighters believe it began in the garage and then spread to the second floor of the home, Navarro said.
