HOUSTON – KPRC 2 has learned the identity of the 17-year-old Aldine High School killed in a shooting last week. His name was Irwan Paez.
The shooting happened across from Aldine High School at the McDonald’s parking lot.
On Sunday, loved ones were continuing to drop off flowers, candles and balloons at a makeshift memorial where Paez was killed.
Houston Police Department authorities said Paez was killed when a group of teenagers got into an altercation with a group of people inside a red Dodge pick-up truck. They said someone inside fired a shot, hitting and killing Paez. The truck left the scene.
“I always looked at him like my little brother,” said Izak Duran, a senior at Aldine High School.
Duran tells KPRC 2 he stops by the makeshift memorial every day to say his goodbyes to his late friend.
“I miss him,” said Duran. “We did a lot of stuff together.”
Some of Paez’s favorite items were also left at the memorial, including a boxing glove. Duran tells KPRC 2, Paez enjoyed boxing as a hobby.
“I knew he was going to have a bright future,” said Duran. “He was an innocent boy. He was loved by everyone.”
Three people were initially detained following the shooting. But no charges have been filed at this time.
This shooting is one of several violent crimes to occur in Aldine in recent days. There was also a shooting on Friday night when one person was taken to the hospital. On Sunday morning, there was a stabbing and assault at the Aldine Apartments which led to a mother and her teenage daughter getting charged.
Friends of Paez said there is a balloon release happening Monday.
