Law enforcement responded to the 3900 block of Aldine Mail Route Road after receiving a call regarding the body a little after 11 a.m.

HCSO Homicide Sgt. Sidney Miller said the woman is believed to be in her 60s and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her family was also on the scene, Miller said, as they’d been looking for her since Wednesday or possibly before that. The exact timeline wasn’t immediately clear.

The family learned her vehicle had been towed from a parking lot near the dumpster, Miller said, and started searching around the area before making the discovery.

Investigators can’t determine at this point if her body had any signs of trauma and don’t know how long she may have been in the dumpster. They’re using surveillance video to help piece together the timeline.

Miller said the woman was known to “dumpster dive” and that’s how she made her living, which they believe may have been the case in this incident.

HCSO said the woman was not formally reported missing.
