Some Area Schools Cancel Friday Classes; No Update from Spring & Klein ISD

Spring, Texas – Some area school districts have cancelled classes on Friday, February 4, 2022 in anticipation of icy conditions during the morning commute. Both Conroe and Tomball ISD’s have announced that campuses will be closed on Friday as well as all after school activities on Thursday. As of 4:00 PM, Spring and Klein ISDs have not yet announced their intentions. A winter weather advisory remains in effect until Friday at noon. Models indicate that ice could begin accumulating on bridges and overpasses as we move into the evening hours.

Reported bomb threat at Tomball High School; Tomball ISD schools placed in ‘secure mode,’ school district says

All Tomball ISD schools were placed in “secure mode” after a bomb threat was reported at Tomball High School Thursday, authorities said. Tomball High School and Tomball Junior High were placed in lockdown.

Klein, Spring, Tomball, Conroe ISD Closed Tuesday, September 14 Due to Incoming Tropical Storm

Spring, Texas – All local school districts have announced that they will be closed on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 due to the potential impacts from Tropical Storm Nicholas. Klein ISD, Spring ISD, Tomball ISD, and Conroe ISD have all announced closures for Tuesday. In addition to the closure, all after-school activities on Monday have also been cancelled. Classes are preliminary scheduled to resume on Wednesday, September 15 unless further cancellations are deemed necessary.

HISD website appears to crash on first day of virtual classes

HOUSTON – As students in the state’s largest school district started their virtual classes Tuesday, some parents reported having trouble connecting to the district’s website. KPRC 2 attempted to visit the official website for the Houston Independent School District several times Tuesday morning and received a runtime error and a 504 error. They will all be in virtual learning until at least Oct. 19, when some are scheduled to return to in-person learning. According to Lathan, about 12,000 students still do not have devices for virtual learning, but that does not mean they will be left behind. The district launched 36 digital learning centers for kids who still do not have what they need to participate in virtual school.

These 3 Houston-area school districts are among the best in Texas, new survey reveals

HOUSTON – Three Houston-area school districts were ranked among the top school districts in Texas according to a survey by niche.com. The survey was based on factors such as college readiness, graduation rates, teacher quality, and test scores. Katy ISD, Friendswood ISD and Tomball ISD came in at Nos. "This traumatic experience, to be heard by a whole bunch of people, that way they can see that bullying is a real thing," Kailee Boynton said. "And it's even, you know, prominent in these young ages - 8, 9, 10 years old - and it needs to be addressed. It needs to be addressed at school, it needs to be addressed at home. The Texas Education Agency released the 2018-19 accountability ratings for school districts across the state Thursday, Aug. 15. Tomball ISD received an overall A rating for the 2018-19 school year, consistent with last years A rating for the 2017-18 year. This amounts to 25% of all public school districts in the state, an increase from only 17% of school districts in the state receiving an A rating in 2017-18. Across the state, 1,201 districts and charter schools receiving a rating based on an A-F scale in 2018-19. Tomball ISD renews superintendents contract, ups pay 3.5%

The Tomball ISD board of trustees unanimously approved extending Superintendent Martha Salazar-Zamoras contract to a four-year term in effect from July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2023, during an Aug. 13 board of trustees meeting. Trustee Justin Unser and Salazar-Zamora were absent from Tuesdays meeting. In addition to the contract extension, the board approved an increase in the superintendents salary Aug. 13, raising Salazar-Zamoras annual base salary by 3.5% to $253,575, trustee John McStravick said during the meeting. Salazar-Zamoras base salary was $245,000 for the 2018-19 school year and $215,000 for the 2017-18 school year, according to Texas Education Agency data. Salazar-Zamora began her role as superintendent in April 2017 after the retirement of former Superintendent Huey Kinchen.

Data: Starting teacher pay in Houston-area school districts rises 4.6% for 2019-20

As school districts apply House Bill 3 funding toward teacher raises, the average starting pay increased $2,426, or about 4.6%, over 2018 salaries, with an average salary of $55,703 among a selection of Houston-area districts. Starting pay is just one way to look at pay scales across districts. Tomball ISD has approved a salary increase of about 2%, but the district has not formally released how that affects starting teacher salary. Spring ISDs figure below was based on its 2018-19 pay scale factoring in approved pay raises for teachers with zero to 4 years of experience in 2019.
