Some Area Schools Cancel Friday Classes; No Update from Spring & Klein ISD
Spring, Texas – Some area school districts have cancelled classes on Friday, February 4, 2022 in anticipation of icy conditions during the morning commute. Both Conroe and Tomball ISD’s have announced that campuses will be closed on Friday as well as all after school activities on Thursday. As of 4:00 PM, Spring and Klein ISDs have not yet announced their intentions. A winter weather advisory remains in effect until Friday at noon. Models indicate that ice could begin accumulating on bridges and overpasses as we move into the evening hours.

Spring, Texas – All local school districts have announced that they will be closed on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 due to the potential impacts from Tropical Storm Nicholas. Klein ISD, Spring ISD, Tomball ISD, and Conroe ISD have all announced closures for Tuesday. In addition to the closure, all after-school activities on Monday have also been cancelled. Classes are preliminary scheduled to resume on Wednesday, September 15 unless further cancellations are deemed necessary.

HOUSTON – As students in the state’s largest school district started their virtual classes Tuesday, some parents reported having trouble connecting to the district’s website. KPRC 2 attempted to visit the official website for the Houston Independent School District several times Tuesday morning and received a runtime error and a 504 error. They will all be in virtual learning until at least Oct. 19, when some are scheduled to return to in-person learning. According to Lathan, about 12,000 students still do not have devices for virtual learning, but that does not mean they will be left behind. The district launched 36 digital learning centers for kids who still do not have what they need to participate in virtual school.

The Tomball ISD board of trustees unanimously approved extending Superintendent Martha Salazar-Zamoras contract to a four-year term in effect from July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2023, during an Aug. 13 board of trustees meeting. Trustee Justin Unser and Salazar-Zamora were absent from Tuesdays meeting. In addition to the contract extension, the board approved an increase in the superintendents salary Aug. 13, raising Salazar-Zamoras annual base salary by 3.5% to $253,575, trustee John McStravick said during the meeting. Salazar-Zamoras base salary was $245,000 for the 2018-19 school year and $215,000 for the 2017-18 school year, according to Texas Education Agency data. Salazar-Zamora began her role as superintendent in April 2017 after the retirement of former Superintendent Huey Kinchen.
