Construction begins on Chesmar Homes GHBA Benefit home
Chesmar Homes recently broke ground on its Hillcrest plan in the Texas City community of Lago Mar. In December the slab was poured and January kicked off the framing of Chesmarโs seventh Greater Houston Builders Association Benefit home. This home is being built with a generous team of donors who are GHBA members. Since the charity fundraiser began 41 years ago, more than $12 million has been raised. The lot donation in Lago Mar was Land Tejasโ 18th lot donation for the Benefit Homes Project.

These donations will ensure that, when the house sells at market value, proceeds will go to two local charities, HomeAid Houston and Operation Finally Home. Since the fundraiser began 40 years ago, nearly 12 million dollars has been raised.

More than 800 people went to the hospital suffering from respiratory problems.At 5:20 p.m., a crane lifting a 40-ton heater convection unit dropped it, severing a 3-inch pipe connected to an acid tank.Hydrogen fluoride gas spewed from the rupture and formed a cloud over the city.Marathon workers eventually drained the tank of acid.More than 30 people were admitted into the hospital with hundreds more treated for respiratory problems and eye irritation.

The 15-year-old girl and two other young women were running across the street when a Jeep traveling eastbound struck the teen, killing her, police said. HOUSTON - Two people were shot and three people were arrested Sunday after a shooting in Texas City led to a chase through League City, authorities said. The incident began about 1 a.m. when Texas City police were called to the corner of Somerset Avenue and 31st Street North. Authorities put out a bulletin for the car, which was spotted by police in League City on the Gulf Freeway frontage road. Police said one of the fleeing people showed a weapon when they got out of the car, and a League City officer fired several times through his windshield.
