Rifle, ballistic gear stolen from unmarked deputy vehicle, Galveston County sheriff’s office says

Sheriff’s office offering $5,000 reward for information leading to recovery of stolen gear, arrest of suspect

TEXAS CITY, Texas – Galveston County investigators are asking for the public’s help after someone broke into an unmarked law enforcement vehicle in Texas City and took department-issued gear — including a rifle.

The burglary happened May 8 and is being jointly investigated by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas City Police Department.

Officials said the stolen items include a .300 Blackout AR-style rifle with a suppressor, along with a Sheriff’s Office ballistic vest and a deputy’s duty belt.

Crime scene investigators have processed the vehicle and developed fingerprint evidence, and authorities say they are continuing to work leads to identify whoever is responsible. Because the equipment is law enforcement-issued, investigators warned it could pose a serious risk if it is not quickly recovered.

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that leads to the recovery of the stolen equipment or the arrest of the person or people involved.
