HOUSTON โ Aldiโs highly-anticipated Advent Calendar collection hit store shelves on Wednesday. The grocery store chain announced in September that they will bring back their popular cheese, beer, and wine Advent calendars along with several additions to the collection. More than 20 Advent calendars will be sold in stores and online, with the exception of alcohol Advent calendars, which are strictly sold in stores, Aldi stated on their website FAQโs. Petition calls for Trader Joes to remove ethnic, racist branding from their products
LOS ANGELES Trader Joes has responded to criticism and backlash after a petition was created on Change.org to remove racist-sounding labels that were intended to be humorous, CNN Business and The Los Angeles Times reported. The grocery chain said in a statement obtained by the LA Times that they have been in the process of transitioning from ethnic branding to using solely the Trader Joes name for all products several years ago. Offending products include Trader Joses for Mexican, Trader Mings for Chinese, Arabian Joe for Arabic, and Trader Giottos for Italian. More than 2,400 signatures were registered as of Monday morning, according to the petition. Trader Joes became the latest company to respond to widespread protests on systemic racism sparked by the death of Houston-native George Floyd.

H-E-B opening new store in Houstonโs Third Ward, touts fresh options for neighborhood
HOUSTON โ Texas-based grocer H-E-B opened its H-E-B MacGregor Market in Houstonโs Third Ward on Wednesday at 6 a.m. at the intersection of N. MacGregor Way and State Highway 288. In a news release, H-E-B touted its healthy food choices for the neighborhood, as well as curbside pick-up, and home delivery for the 90,000-square-foot location. H-E-B says the store has been in the works for the neighborhood since 2014, and has been under construction since February. โThis H-E-B store has been in the making for some time now, and we are thrilled to put our roots down on this historic corner of Houston,โ said Winell Herron, H-E-Bโs Group VP for Public Affairs, Diversity and Environmental Affairs. โThanks to the diligent work of the City of Houston, the Houston Housing Finance Corporation, community supporters and our H-E-B team, we are honored to be an even bigger and better part of this neighborhood.โH-E-B, which is based in San Antonio, says it operates more than 400 stores in Texas and Mexico.
