Strike 'Em: San Antonio's UIL #8 Girls Soccer Ranking- Boerne Champion
Coming off a great season full of talent and speed, Boerne Champion looks to rebuild this year but still at a competitive level. With only 2 starters returning, Coach Kara Walters is excited to gain Gaby Dellocono to the squad. Dellocono did not play high school ball her freshman and sophomore year, but Walters says, "She is an extremely dynamic player who can control the midfield." Joining her on the field will be sophomore Emily Peters who is already having a break out year and is what Walters calls, "a strong left-footed striker who is extremely competitive." The Chargers will compete in District 26-5A against teams like Kerrville Tivy, Alamo Heights and New Braunfels Canyon.

The local talent here in San Antonio for girls basketball continues to show as these teams compete against each other. Judson, Brandeis and Clark remain undefeated in 6A having taken on stiff competition. Reagan and Johnson have only lost to Judson and Steele, proving our top 6 to be TOUGH and keeping those ranking spots still in tact. Clark and Brandeis will face off Wed. December 9, in what we expect to be a great matchup! New Braunfels Canyon proves to be a tough contender this year as well having played some tough 6A teams already, and only dropping to Champion by 4.
A Little Pregame with Champion & Brandeis Before Tonight's Matchup
Pregame routines, meals, music and even attire are often very habitual for athletes, and most would say they can never change it up if it works. Vype wanted to know what it looked like for Boerne Champion and Brandeis High School Volleyball teams before they stepped on the court for the Tuesday night matchup at Champion. Photo by VYPE Bradley CollierMarissa Drange of Champion said her pregame starts the night before with a spaghetti dinner. Before the first serve tonight, Guerra and the Broncos will be heard doing a chant during warmups. Summer SUU Commit Drange Helps Champion Navigate UIL Restart
It's been a big summer for Boerne Champion rising junior Marissa Drange. She attended the event in Cedar City, where she met and worked with coaches Pete Hoyer and Lorelle Hoyer. I cannot wait to step on the court as a Thunderbird and represent SUU in the Big Sky Conference." "When I heard the news that UIL released, I was incredibly relieved and excited that we would still get to have a volleyball season," said Drange. The change to the 2020 schedule will affect the team's early matches, including an early tournament in West Texas, but don't expect that to change the goals that Boerne Champion and Drange have set for themselves.
