The Foster Boysโ Water Polo Team completed their 2022 season with a record of 18-10 and 2. The Falcons competed against mostly 6A schools in this inaugural season of water polo in the University Interscholastic League. On their way to making their first appearance at the UIL State Tournament in San Antonio, the team upset 5 of those 6A schools to claim the Region 3 Championship.

Class 4A Huffman "punched in gut" by Harris County's Order
The Huffman ISD athletic director and head football coach knew Harris County was set to make an announcement, which he thought could be "intriguing". Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo had made the announcement that all public and non-religious private schools inside Harris County could not start face-to-face instruction until September 8, the Tuesday following Labor Day. Those dates are all shifted for Huffman, which is the only school in District 10-4A-DI that falls within the Harris County line. According to the Texas Department of Health Services COVID-19 tracking website, as of Friday evening, Harris County was leading the State of Texas (of the 250 counties that have reported) with 61,416 cases. For football, Huffman was paired with Livingston, Lumberton, Orange Little Cypress-Mauriceville, Splendora and Vidor.
Hard-hit Texas border counties urge residents to stay home
AUSTIN, Texas โ While some big cities in Texas are reporting signs that an alarming surge in cases of the coronavirus may be leveling off, officials in counties along the border with Mexico said Tuesday that the outlook there remains bleak. Greg Abbottโs past mandates that do not allow local officials to set their own stay-at-home restrictions. Texas on Tuesday reported more than 9,300 confirmed new cases and 131 deaths, the stateโs second deadliest day of the pandemic. Meanwhile, Texas is pressing ahead with plans for high school football this fall. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
UIL delays school athletic activities due to growing coronavirus concerns
HOUSTON The University Interscholastic League announced Tuesday that it has decided to delay fall semester athletic activities due to the varying numbers of COVID-19 cases across different geographic areas of the state.According to a news release, the delay will affect volleyball, football for 5A and 6A schools and marching band for all conferences until Sept. 7. The plan gives 1A through 4A schools the opportunity to start on schedule while providing the necessary delays to more highly populated schools that may be more affected by coronavirus, the release said. According to the release, the plan also acknowledges that the COVID-19 situation is in flux and every community is affected differently, so it allows for local flexibility and encourages districts to plan for possible interruptions in order to complete district seasons.Our goal in releasing this plan is to provide a path forward for Texas students and schools, said UIL Executive Director, Charles Breithaupt. Schools with the 1A to 4A designation can start meeting for games and meets in mid- to late-August. Schools in 5A or 6A, which are the biggest schools, will have to wait until September. Just last week Texas education officials relaxed a previous order that would have given public schools just three weeks from the start of the fall semester to reopen classrooms for in-person instruction.

In a survey conducted by the Minnesota State High School League in 2007, it stated the average GPA of a high school athlete was 2.84, while a non-athlete was a 2.68. I am forever grateful for my high school coaches and would not be where I am at today without them. The list goes on and on when it comes to the impact of a high school coach and high school sports. High school is the sports Games, band concerts, choir concerts, theater Performances and all that go into your high school years.

High school sports across the country are in doubt across the country. Already this week California announced it would delay fall high school sports until spring even as Florida officials decided to press ahead with no changes to its July 27 start. Many of those Texas schools are located in large urban areas that have been hit hardest by the pandemic. Many Texas school districts are already adjusting the calendars for later starts and weeks of online learning to start the school year. Tim Teykl, head coach at Class 6A Alvin High School outside Houston, said he was happy with the delay because it is not a cancellation of the season.

UIL state football championships at NRG Stadium
HOUSTON โ The University Interscholastic League made it official Monday -- the state football championships are coming to Houston. The UIL formally announced it will bring the event to NRG Stadium on Dec. 17 through Dec. 19 for 10 games in three days. Kevin Hoffman of the Harris County Sports and Convention Corp. said the games will be beneficial for the city. "I anticipate that will be the case as long as football is in Texas. So every year, we will work hard with the UIL to make something like this happen."
