It seems like every time we show the morning lows, Conroe looks to be the coldest spot around and sometimes colder than ten degrees than other places nearby, like Tomball and Huntsville. For instance, this morning Conroe came in at 48° while Huntsville reported 61° and Tomball reported 53°.

New Cajun Food Franchise Set to Open in Tomball
Tomball, Texas – Cajunville, a new franchise serving authentic South Louisiana Cajun food, is preparing to launch its first location with an expected opening date of October 1, 2021. Located at 28145 TX-249 in Tomball, the restaurant will be the prototype for a franchise that aims to make traditional Cajun food more widely available and in a Quick Serve Restaurant format. Landry has noted the high population of Cajun people now living in East Texas and the Houston area and says that he wants to bring true South Louisiana Cajun food to them. Cajunville restaurants will also feature gift shops selling merchandise relating to Cajun food and culture. After the opening of the Tomball restaurant, Landry plans to begin efforts in early 2022 to expand the franchise and prepare for new locations.

Tomball City Manager dies in single-vehicle crash in Waller County
Tomball City Manager Rob Hauck died Saturday in a single-vehicle crash in Waller County, according to a release from the Tomball Police Department. The crash occurred around 1:20 p.m. near the intersection of FM 1774 and Riley Road. Hauck had been selected as Tomball’s City Manager in 2018. Prior to that, he served as the Chief of Police for Tomball Police Department from 2008 to 2014 and as Tomball’s Assistant City Manager from 2014 to 2018. Hauck leaves behind his wife, Kathleen Hauck, and their three children: Lauren Hauck Andrade, Madeline Scott, and Conner Scott.

Tomball venue prioritizing employees’ safety after governor’s latest executive order
Greg Abbott announced an executive order allowing businesses to operate at 100% capacity and ending the statewide mask mandate. “We do have our foyer, with the biggest Chandelier in Texas,” said Lidice Ortiz, the manager of the venue. The wedding and special event venue has multiple spaces, including a ballroom, marble ceremony space, an outdoor venue, gardens and fountains. “We will use the masks until everybody will be vaccinated and we will be safe,” Ortiz said. “We really recommend that they wear masks, they must have social distancing if they want everyone to be safe,” Ortiz said.
Man arrested after carrying explosives in U-Haul pickup truck in Tomball, police say
HOUSTON – The FBI and local agencies are investigating after Tomball police found explosives and nails inside a U-Haul pickup truck early Friday morning, according to authorities. The driver of the truck, Lakent Shrode Daniels, 30, of Houston, was arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and possession of a prohibited weapon. The explosive weapon was not registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, which is maintained by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, according to court records. In court, he was told a judge had set his bond at $300,000 ahead of his court appearance. Daniels is being held at the Harris County Jail and is due back in court sometime next week.
School repairs continue at Houston area school districts after winter storm
The damage to a number of school campuses has forced some school districts to extend their closures. Tomball Independent School DistrictBusted pipes from the fire suppression system sent 10,000 gallons of water gushing out of the second floor ceiling in a wing of Tomball Memorial High School. Houston Independent School DistrictThe recent subfreezing weather conditions resulted in more than 500 requests for service from HISD facilities. Repair crews are working at Briscoe Elementary, Elrod Elementary, Fondren Elementary, Henry Middle, Key Middle, Law Elementary, Long Academy, Pilgrim Elementary, Robinson Elementary, Thomas Middle, and Young Elementary. Power to Houston Independent School District campuses is restored to every location.
Tomball issues boil water notice due to reduced distribution system pressure
TOMBALL, Texas – The city of Tomball has issued a boil water notice due to reduced distribution system pressure early Tuesday morning, according to Tomball Police Department. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is requiring residents to boil their water prior to consumption, such as washing hands, face brushing their teeth and drinking. TCEQ is advising residents to bring water to a vigorous boil and then boil for two minutes. This boil water notice is in effect until further notice. When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, Tomball officials said they will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
Woman Killed in Apparent Auto-Pedestrian Crash in Tomball
Tomball, Texas – The Tomball Police Department responded to reports of a female laying on the side of the road unresponsive and not breathing, Monday evening. Police say the call came in around 7:45 PM in the 22300 block of Huffsmith Kohrville near Mahaffey Road in Tomball. She was found laying on the side of Huffsmith Kohrville with apparent injuries after being struck by a vehicle. Jeff Bert, the Chief of Police for Tomball Police Department says investigators do not have any information on the vehicle that was involved in the crash. Tomball, Texas Investigators with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constables Office are searching for a man accused of robbing a Walgreens Drug Store in Tomball. Officials say that the suspect entered the Walgreens located at 11970 Spring Cypress Road and demanded money from the cash register. The clerk handed over the cash and the suspect fled on foot before deputies could arrive. Investigators obtained security surveillance footage from the store and are asking for the publics help in identifying the suspect. Tomball, Texas Deputies are searching for suspects after fleeing on foot near the intersection of Spring Cypress and 249. The Harris County Sheriffs Office says that a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle. The vehicle fled, then crashed out in a parking lot in the 22600 block of Tomball Parkway. Deputies have two suspects in custody but are still searching for additional suspects. HCSO Air Support Unit and K-9s are assisting.

Tomball, Texas The Tomball Fire Department along with several other Harris County fire departments are battling a fire at a scrap-yard in Tomball. Firefighters are fighting the blaze at SK Scrap Metal in the 14900 block of Treichel Road just south of FM 2920. Officials with the Tomball Police Department say that FM 2920 is closed at Park Road and Calvert Road and are advising motorists to take the following detours. Nearly 1,600 homes are in the works within Tomball city limits, according to a report Community Development Director Craig Meyers presented to Tomball City Council members Oct. 21. The homes are spread among 14 single-family communities, including nine communities currently under construction and five communities in design, according to the presentation. The city also included the count of 37 homes at Yaupon Trails, a community on Brown Road, which was completed within the last two years, to total 1,611 homes in 15 subdivisions. We have a wide variety of housing projects in the development or construction phase from patio homes to acre lots, Meyers said during the meeting. Homes continue to be built in new sections at Raleigh Creek, a 271-lot community on Zion Road, and Reserve at Spring Lakes, a 111-lot estate subdivision on Zion Road, Meyers said.

This project will improve Nabors Parkway, formerly Humble Road, in Tomball between Calvert Road and Hwy. 249 as a two-lane concrete road with improved drainage. Ongoing negotiations with a property owner for a drainage channel have not been finalized, said Pamela Rocchi, director of Harris County Precinct 4s capital improvement projects division. Pipeline relocations are necessary before the construction bidding process can begin, she said, and Precinct 4 now anticipates advertising the project for construction in the third quarter of 2020, a delay from the original goal of the third quarter of 2019. A total closure of FM 149 at FM 1774 and the ongoing Hwy. 249 Project Team, bridge beams will be placed over FM 149 during the closure. The Harris County Toll Road Authority also cautions drivers about an upcoming lane closure in Tomball. 249 northbound frontage road between FM 2920 and Spring Creek in Tomball will be closed from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12.

For one poly cart, the monthly fee totals $18.70, and poly carts for both garbage and recycling services total $21.70. An additional poly cart may be added for $3 per cart per month. If you decide to do a poly cart for the trash, then you need to use the poly cart. According to city information, poly cart collection will begin Nov. 18, although residents may receive poly carts before then. Recycling collection routes will change Nov. 18, splitting the city between two recycling collection days.

The city of Tomball has budgeted about $407,000 for drainage improvements in fiscal year 2019-20 to keep drainage a priority, Assistant City Manager David Esquivel said. Drainage projects are proposed for Mulberry and Persimmon streets and Lizzie Lane, and about $50,000 is slated for drainage improvement planning, budget information shows. During a July 15 meeting, Tomball City Council authorized City Manager Rob Hauck to negotiate services with engineering firm Costello for improvements on these roads. Elsewhere in the city, about $157,000 is budgeted to improve Mulberry Street, according to budget information. One of [our city development]standards is to outfall [drainage]into a city street.
