Cinemark promises movie theater upgrades in Cypress with dine-in location
HOUSTON โ Cinemark is joining the dine-in movie craze with the opening of a new location in Cypress. by Cinemark is said to โelevate the traditional movie experienceโ by offering moviegoers cooked-to-order items prepared in their full-service kitchen, and specialty cocktails. Menu items include a Bistro Burger, pizzas cooked in specialty Italian stone ovens, and classic concession items such as popcorn, hot dogs, and candy. According to a news release, Cinemark will follow strict safety and cleaning guidelines to ensure customer safety. Guidelines include mandatory mask wearing, staggered showtimes, and extensive cleaning in all auditoriums.
LIST: Sawyer Yards drive-in announces movie screenings for November
Before itโs lights out, Rooftop Cinema Club, which runs the drive-in, rolled out a list of screenings for November. Guests can enjoy the venueโs most-popular films plus two new 2020 releases: The Secret: Dare to Dream and The Broken Hearts Gallery. For a late-night-date-night Sunday through Thursday, the venue offers $20-per-vehicle tickets (for 2 people) for all 9:45 and 10:15 p.m. screenings. Every Sunday night, the venue offers tickets for only $5 per vehicle for the 9:30 and 10:15 p.m. show. The drive-in cinema has yet to announce its new location, which is slated to open in December.

Itโs been over two months since movie theaters started reopening in the U.S., but there is still a fair amount of consumer confusion about moviegoing in the COVID-19 era. So what do you need to know about going to the theater? Indoor movie theaters remain open in most states, except New Mexico, although some are on a county-by-county basis, including California, Massachusetts, Maryland, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon and Wisconsin. Last weekend, theaters were cleared to open begin opening in some New York State counties at under 50% capacity and this weekend San Francisco will join in too. Indoor spaces like movie theaters, restaurants and malls mean prolonged exposure, which could mean greater risk.
Netflix increases prices on standard and premium plans
On Thursday, Netflix raised the price of its standard plan to $13.99 and the premium plan to $17.99. At that time, the plans were $8 for the basic, $11 for the standard, and $14 for the premium. That means that, in less than two years, the price of its standard plan has risen by $3 and the price of its premium plan has risen by $4. The standard plan allows for two screens at the same time, while the premium plan allows for four screens. Of those services, only HBO Max charges more for its service than the standard Netflix plan.

Khairi Sharif, 26, is opening Space City Shows, the first Black-owned drive-in theatre in Houston. Since May, Sharif has been learning about movie licenses, liabilities and screen projectors, turning his dream into a reality. Now, he hopes Space City Shows motivates and inspires Black youth.

Float on a boat and enjoy a flick at this floating cinema coming to Houston in September
HOUSTON Drive-in movie theaters are seeing a resurgence amid the coronavirus pandemic, but one company wants to take it a step further -- on the water. Australian-based movie theater company Beyond Cinema will be offering a boat-in movie theater where visitors can watch movies while floating on a boat in a lake, taking social distancing to the next level. The theater plans to make a visit to Houston on the week of September 9, with a lineup of both classic and modern movie showings. Halle Berry is apologizing after she recently revealed she was considering playing a transgender man in an upcoming film project. "Over the weekend I had the opportunity to discuss my consideration of an upcoming role as a transgender man, and Id like to apologize for those remarks," Berry shared in a statement. Berry joined Christin Brown for an Instagram Live interview over the weekend, and she revealed that she'd recently been approached to play a trans character, and was excited by the possibility. "[The role is] a character where the woman is a trans character, so shes a woman that transitioned into a man," Berry said at the time. The comments drew fire from critics who objected to Berry playing the character instead of hiring a trans actor for the role.

Next year's Academy Awards will not be where it happens, if what's happening is Disney+'s Hamilton movie winning an Oscar. (After all, as the adjusted rule stipulates, the filmed version was originally slated to open in theaters.) According to the 93rd Academy Awards Special Rules for the Documentary Awards, "Works that are essentially promotional or instructional are not eligible, nor are works that are essentially unfiltered records of performances." According to Variety, the language barring recording stage production was added in 1997. Hamilton is currently streaming on Disney+, while the 93rd Oscars were recently postponed two months and are set to take place April 25, 2021.

The โHamiltonโ on Disney+ is a filmed version of the show, not a movie. Itโs easy to call the version of โHamiltonโ coming out on Disney+ a movie, but technically, itโs the stage version, filmed. An actual movie version of โHamiltonโ will probably happen eventually, but this is a great way to really capture the magic of the stage version of the show. And because the people at Disney are incredibly smart, free trials of the streaming service have ended, so if you want to watch, youโre going to have to sign up.
