Now, researchers are studying a new method that helps parents help their children. Eli Lebowitz, PhD, Psychologist, Yale School of Medicine Child Study Center, and his colleagues, developed a method of training parents to support anxious children. Parents go through training to help their child face anxiety. Lebowitz says parents also learn to help their child by not accommodating them. In a study of 124 kids and their parents, the Yale researchers examined whether SPACE intervention was effective in treating childrenโ€™s anxiety.

HOUSTON โ€“ Thousands of students at Houston Independent School District will receive books through country music star Dolly Partonโ€™s foundation. Dolly Partonโ€™s Imagination Library, a gift program that gives free books to children from birth to age 5, will provide books to up to 5,000 children in Houston. The program called โ€œBook of the Monthโ€ will provide children in Houston access to books by mail. Children will receive a book every month until the child turns 5 years old. A drive-through sign up event will be held at Sherman Elementary School on Wednesday, where parents can sign up for the book program.

Thereโ€™s a variety of baby monitors for parents to choose from, such as a monitor that goes on the baby, often the foot, and connect to the wireless cameras and monitors, which will alert the parents if a babyโ€™s breathing is irregular. The hope is that such baby monitors will help parents monitor their children in their sleep and help eliminate Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Itโ€™s another tool thatโ€™s been tough to come by during the pandemic but theyโ€™re starting to come back.

Katy ISD will provide free meals to all students living in the area until December

KATY, Texas โ€“ The Katy Independent School District is providing free meals to all students in the area, even if they arenโ€™t part of the district, after the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) extended the food program waiver, the district announced. Katy ISD began providing meals Monday and students can receive free breakfast and lunch through Dec. 31, or pending available funds through the USDA and TDA. โ€œAll students are eligible for one breakfast and one lunch meal per day per federal guidance,โ€ said Nutrition & Food Service Executive Director Donna Pittenger. โ€œParents can however add funds to their studentโ€™s Pay N' Go meal account for a la carte purchases or in preparation for when the USDA waiver ends,โ€ she added. Once the waiver expires, Katy ISD will switch back to the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program, according to a press release.

Moody Foundation gives HISD $1M grant to help shrink digital divide for students in need

HOUSTON โ€“ The Moody Foundation is giving the Houston Independent School District a $1 million grant to help Texas' largest public school district purchase of more than 2,000 devices for students in need. The grant will cover devices for Pre-K through fifth-grade students in the districtโ€™s achieve 180 schools, which are underserved an underperforming HISD feeder pattern communities. About 35% of HISDโ€™s 209,000 students lacked internet at home at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since March, the Moody Foundation has given out grants amounting to more than $10 million to more than 100 nonprofits in need of relief. La Porte ISD will provide free meals to all students, district says

HOUSTON โ€“ The La Porte Independent School District announced this week that all of its students will begin to receive free meals after the U.S. Department of Agriculture extended the Summer Food Service Program. The program will also provide free curbside meals for children 18 and younger who are not enrolled in the district. โ€œThis (waiver) essentially allows us to provide meals to all children without the added burden of determining who is eligible and who isnโ€™t,โ€ said Yvonne Bennett, La Porte ISD nutrition director. โ€œIf students are not present in the vehicle, the parent or guardian must present the studentโ€™s school ID number or badge to the cashier. 14 Houston-area churches welcome about 800 HISD elementary students to virtual learning centers

As part of the program by the United Methodist Church, 14 different Houston-area churches have been converted into virtual learning centers so about 800 Houston Independent School District students will have a place to learn virtually while their parents go back to work. Created specifically to help working parents by providing laptop computers, a powerful WiFi signal and even meals, the program completely free for the students in attendance.
