Say it ain’t so: Rodeo Houston canceled for 2021

HOUSTON – It all started with the cancellation of Rodeo Houston 2020 and now coronavirus has come full circle in the Houston area with the announcement that the 2021 event is no more. According to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the weeks-long event, which had been rescheduled to May 4 through 23, has been canceled. Also canceled for this year are the Downtown Rodeo Parade, Trail Ride activities, Rodeo Uncorked! “The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is one of the most significant events held in Houston every year. I support their decision and look forward to a bigger Houston Rodeo in 2022.”Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo also released a statement that said:Ad“I want to commend the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for protecting the health and safety of our community.

Rodeo Houston planning to reopen in 2021. These are the steps they’re taking for safety

HOUSTON – The Houston Rodeo and Livestock Show and announced that planning is underway for a safe and healthy 2021 rodeo. The massive annual event was forced to shut down early in March as COVID-19 cases continued to rise in the Houston area. The move left many vendors and concert ticketholders in a bind. Rodeo volunteers are preparing to welcome revelers to NRG Park between March 2 and March 21 with multiple health and safety measures in place. The rodeo’s safety plan has not been finalized but the event is undertaking several different approaches including creating several task forces, collaborating with local venues and sports teams, analyzing community feedback and work closely with medical experts and local officials.

Top quilters receive ribbons in Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s 2020 Quilt contest

HOUSTON – With more than 60 entries from quilters across the designated 68 Area Go Texan counties and Houston-area counties, winners of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo 2020 Quilt Contest were announced Monday. Those who had winning quilts will have their artwork showcased in the NRG Center during the rodeo, which begins Tuesday. Ribbons were awarded in categories that included, Overall Best of Show, Best of Division, Best of Go Texan Award and Judges Choice, among others. The Overall Best of Show winner was Virginia Horton, for her quilt called “Star Crossed,” which represented Live Oak County, Area Go Texan Committee. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo will run through March 22.

The 2020 World Championship Bar-B-Que Cookoff Contest is three days of brisket, beer, and good ‘ol country music

HOUSTON – Ladies and gentleman…who’s ready to smell like BBQ for the next few days?? (raises hand)More than 250 teams will compete in the Rodeo Houston’s World Championship Bar-B-Que Contest this year, which runs February 27-29 at NRG. If you can’t sweet talk your way into a private tent, there are several public venues including The Garden, Rockin’ Bar-B-Que Saloon and the Chuckwagon. The Rockin’ Bar-B-Que Saloon also features live and DJ music, and has an outside patio for visitors to enjoy. Inside the saloon is the Chuckwagon, where visitors can pick up their complimentary sliced brisket plate with chips and beans.

Remembering Selena

HOUSTON – Across the state Tejano music lovers are taking time to remember the pop icon Selena. Rodeo Houston 1995 was still in the Astrodome and where the native Texan is remembered by many as making her final public performance. Strutting the famous purple-studded one piece, Selena was seen by more than 61,000 people attending the rodeo that night. If she had lived till this day Jennifer Lopez would not be Jennifer Lopez," Lazo said.
