HOUSTON โ€“ With all adults in Texas now able to sign up for the COVID vaccine, many employers are coming up with plans to encourage their employees to get vaccinated. We are 22,000-square-feet and itโ€™s just we have to protect everybody.โ€For now, at the Rice Village salon, itโ€™s not a mandate for employees to get the vaccine, but they are strongly encouraging it. We have to protect our clientele and we have to protect our business. AdWeโ€™ve checked with several local businesses and most, for now, said they are strongly encouraging their employees to get vaccinated, but not requiring it at this time. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turnerโ€™s office said the Mayor is doing the same thing; encouraging municipal employees to get the vaccine, but not requiring it.

HOUSTON โ€“ Employees at The Heights Hospital said they couldnโ€™t get into the building Monday when they showed up for work. โ€œWe came to work and we were locked out,โ€ said clinical coordinator Barbie Ortega. One indicates more than $322,000 in back rent, and the other indicates more than $948,000 in back rent. She said patients still showed up so staffers took matters into their own hands, treating what they could in the parking lot. The hospitalโ€™s website is currently down and some employees said they do not know if they will still get paid.

LA PORTE, Texas โ€“ The La Porte Independent School District is offering $1,000 to most employees under a resolution approved Tuesday night by the districtโ€™s board of trustees. The employees earned the incentive for going โ€œabove and beyond their duties and responsibilitiesโ€ during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the board resolution. Trustees voted unanimously to extend a one-time incentive and retention payment to each employee of the district who was employed by Sept. 8, 2020. Substitutes, temporary workers and employees who are on paid or unpaid administrative leave do not qualify for the payment, according to the district. Employees who qualify will receive the payment by the time the district closes for the holidays on Dec. 18.
