Understanding Rapid Intensification
Hurricane IAN underwent Rapid Intensification overnight and now stands with winds of 155mph. At 10pm yesterday, those winds were at 120mph and THAT is the classic definition of Rapid Intensification: when winds increase by 35mph or more in 24 hours or less! Couldn’t be more on spot.
Book leads No. 2 Irish past Syracuse 45-21; Clemson next up
It was Book’s 30th victory as a starter, the most ever for a Notre Dame quarterback. “It’s a dream come true to be able to attend Notre Dame and have a good career,” Book said. Notre Dame started its run thanks to a roughing the passer by Syracuse that Book later turned into a 28-yard TD run. Book finished with 348 total yards, becoming only the second Irish player to move past 10,000 yards (10,008) in total offense. Notre Dame: The Irish have an extra week to rest up for Clemson after the conference adjusted the schedules earlier this week, canceling their last game.
Wedding before the storm: Delta speeds up couple's nuptials
– Hurricane Delta sped up one Louisiana couple's wedding by a few days, but judging by the smiles on the bride and groom, it certainly didn't dampen the affair. Skies were gray, but the rain held off while the wedding party gathered. The streets outside were largely deserted as residents finished up last-minute storm preparations or evacuated. “Within 16 hours they threw an entire wedding together, and it’s beautiful. It was very important for her that she did get married in the church and when that almost didn’t happen she was so distraught,” she said.
Rockies GM supports Desmond's decision to skip '20 season
DENVER Colorado Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich says he supports Ian Desmonds decision to sit out the 2020 season to focus on his young family and help rejuvenate youth baseball in his hometown in Florida. He is owed $8 million next year, and his deal includes a $15 million team option for 2022 with a $2 million buyout. Ian is extremely thoughtful in what he does, hes thoughtful in how he prepares as a professional athlete, hes thoughtful as a husband and a father ... hes thoughtful about things that are bigger than him, Bridich said. He wrote how they looked run down and neglected, and how important youth baseball was for him growing up. Desmond said he wants to help Sarasota Youth Baseball get back on track.
The Fascist Bits of Onward
Let me start by saying that no film has ever pleasantly surprised me more than Onward did. That said what the hell is up with the weird fascist undertones in Pixar? In Onward, magic is real, but it is hard to do. The film opens with an apprentice wizard giving up his staff to marvel at the simpler and user-friendly invention of electricity. Like with The Incredibles, Onward is a movie fixated on the necessity of exceptional individuals to keep society from stagnating.
