How counties in Houston area are preparing roads ahead of winter storm
HOUSTON โ The Texas Department of Transportation says they will start pre-treating roads, highways, and overpasses across the Houston area in the next 24 hours. They are waiting for roads to dry before starting the treatment process. โThe more prepared our citizens can be the better off we are going to be,โ said Meghan Arthur, a public information officer for Montgomery County. โWe are expecting to see ice on ground level roadways as well,โ said Emily Black, who is with the Texas Department of Transportation. The weather has already caused problems in Montgomery County.
Just how bad are Houstonโs roads? Apparently better than Dallasโ, according to this new survey
HOUSTON โ We all know Houstonโs roads can be unpleasant to drive on from uneven pavements to that occasional pothole. A survey from CoPilot and the Federal Highway Administration has Houston ranked 22nd for the worst roads in the country. Rhode Island, California, and New Jersey share the highest percentage of poor urban and rural road conditions. According to the survey, an average of 20-25 percent of major urban roads in Texas are in poor condition. Other Texas cities with poor road conditions include Dallas-Fort-Worth-Arlington, who ranked high at No.
Construction company ahead of schedule on Westheimer Road project with less people on the road
HOUSTON โ Drivers in the Galleria area remember what it's like to drive down Westheimer road near Interstate 610 before the stay-at-home order went into effect. Drivers said there is less traffic on a typically heavily traveled road. Drivers could see light traffic even when the order lifted since road construction companies have been able to work longer hours. Angel Brothers Construction Company is set to finish its nine miles of asphalt pavement project on Westheimer road in 90 days instead of the initially projected 13 months. Derek Angel, who is the co-owner of Angel Brothers, which is contracted with TxDOT to complete the road project, said his crew can work without interruptions.
